Bo yeah, the blunderbuss effect, louder is better right?? Short barreled rifles (carbines) are much more effective than rifles right? Revolvers looses a significant amount of exhaust gas between the cylinder and the frame thus generate a bigger bang than automatics. So, automatics are better weapons right?? A 22LR makes a much bigger blast out of a short barrel pistol than a 22short so the 22LR must be a more effective projectile when fired from that weapon right?? Now this should be fun…
Yes, the blunderbuss effect is evident. I hate it when something "looses a significant amount of exhaust gas" it just stinks up the area.

Hey Gemie, that is a cute double post. Problem is, that if you think any of the effects above is incorrect, you are dumber than a stihl dealer. Now ask yourself a question; you know anything about firearms or mufflers?? If not, it’s high time you hit the library. You do know what a library is don’t you??

So, I've seen the Lakeside53 MM thread on the 361, but has anyone just gutted that muffler plum out instead?

If so, I would like to know how it turned out.

As far as accuracy goes, give me a longer barreled rifle and a revolver.:blob2:

Thats how I tackel the 361 mufflers, but it is a PITA to take them apart and remove all the junk in them. Have three 361 on the bench now so will post some pics in the next few days.

In my expierence the Stihl 660 gives one of the most evident examples of how a MM can help the performance of a saw. From the factory it is one restricted, choked up engine, let it breath and you can clearly without a doubt tell a tangible difference in performance.

Did you see this?

This is a MM of all MM on 066.........I still have it some where.

It's a seemingly universal opinion that a muffler mod opens up the exhaust and improves performance quite a bit in most cases. Recent testing in the colossal MS261 thread actually showed the opposite on two different saws. I'd be curious to know how many here have actually done any scientific testing on an otherwise stock saw?

Could this be a placebo affect? YES, but it is called the Harley, Fart Can or ####head with Diesel effect.I mean louder IS faster right?

NO. NO. NO. It is just louder. Louder takes a drill, faster takes some skill.

I'll also note that I am fully aware that some saws respond better than others to muffler mods.

Yeah, been seeing a lot of "modified" saws this year.

The saws, motorcycles, cars, trucks, etc... that respond best to muffler mods, were poorly designed. Congratulations on your purchase.

Brages, was this the one you were looking for?

I get to this pic:

Would you expect similar results from a 660? I.e. open up the muffler by a factor of 5 times as much area and get a 20% performance increase?
Have you already posted that data and I just couldn't find it?

thanks

I just want to know what a muffler mod on an Dolmar 7900 will do.Has anyone done a muffler mod on one and did it increase power, decrease power or stay the same?I have been told a muffler mod on one will do nothing for extra power.

For starters if you don't want to hack on your muffler, pull the spark screen out and see if it makes a difference.

026 filter had been replaced with a 260 filter that had been modified to give it more filter area and less restriction.

Brad on the 7900 were you just opeing up the outlet or adding a second hole without opening the muffler up to dejunk it? On 675 and 681 solo I found gains in the muffler, given it is nearly identical design to the 7900 I would think there should be some gains to be had on the 7900.
