the dumb#@% next door started a grass fire and it got my splitter. dang thing is only 1 1/2 yrs old and split about 3 cord.

that must be pretty annoying. It looks salvagable. Probably new seals all round but shouldnt take much to get it back and running i would of thought

oh i can fix it. i talked to the guy and am waiting on his ins. he will replace it one way or the other. then ill convert this one to a three point for my buddies tractor.

Homeowners insurance is going to pay for another one so long as you push it. :) he might of done you a favor if you didn't like the one you had you can put a little more money with it and get something upgraded. If you did like it.. well yeah, buy another one. Make sure they pay you the cost to buy another though.. where its only split 3 cords its "new" still. :)

Bummer on having it burn though :(

the insurance company might give you an option: keep it and make repairs or give it up for a new one.

My concern would be if the hydrolic fluid burned, that it got hot enough to weaken steel.

I would be MIGHTY careful operating it after you fix it back up.

i tore it down today and all that looks damaged is the engine and paint only hose that shows damage is the lower suction line the love joy spider wasnt even damaged. i talked to the fire dept and they said they saw smoke under the tarp i had on it and by the time they got over to it the engine was engulfed in flames and they hosed it down quick so im hoping that it will be a easy fix ie: new engine, hyd fluid n filter change, hoses and some piant. but i will try to get the guy responsible for the fire to replace it anyway.

You are only going to get one shot with his insurance company. I would demand a replacement.

If you find out later down the road that the fire DID get hot enough to weaken the beam, or even say the tank, you will get nothing else from the insurance company later.

Your neighbor sunds like a bone head, from all the damage I see HIS fire caused. :curse:

:agree2: even if the insurance declines it i would still be telling that neighbour he's on the hook for a new one. no fixes, trades or excuses, replacment only. he started the fire, he's responsible 100%.

It may be fixable but it could be costly. The heat could have warped the cylinder or damaged the seals. The control valve could also have internal damage. The pump is damaged for sure . Total replacement is the only way to know it will be problem free.

Turn it into your insurance they will pay the claim less your dedutable and go after the other insuance company as soon as they get paid they will give you your deductable back It is better leting them fight it out as your insurance is not about to lose money that way just go get a new one That is what you pay insurance for
