My uncle has a an Echo saw that he does not have in front of him (out of town) that does not run. It was mentioned that he should give it to me to have.

I contacted him and he said a repair that shop one of the two coils is bad:msp_confused:

Did Echo make a model with two coils? Any value in getting this saw. I would have to pay shipping to get.

There was an Echo CST-610EVL twin at Grandpatractor's last GTG. Wetgunpowder was telling of a time when someone was having trouble starting one. They pulled the plug out to check for spark. While checking for spark the saw started and ran with the other cylinder. Just looking at the saw it doesn't look like it has two cylinders. Can you imagion being the person that has a saw run without a sparkplug!

It is heavy and underpowered...the shipping will eat you alive:msp_scared:

Do yourself a favor and have him ship it to me instead. I will pay the shipping charges and I will send you an amount equal to them, so you will end up with twice the money you would have spent for a broken saw and you won't have to mess around with it.:msp_sleep:

Seriously they are nice but it would be a shame to use it up doing firewood chores. :hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

Uh ok I will send it right over:laugh:
I contacted him and said if it was the model you guys pulled up I would be most interested in it. Time will tell on this. They look like they could run pretty hard being a twin cylinder.

I knoew that I ahve seen one of those on ebay and I was surprised at teh amount of money it was going for. I can only hope it is that model and he will let it go. Looks like a cool saw to have.

Thanks for chasing ths info down:rock:

Bob, I remember a few months ago someon posting that Echos have a lifetime warranty on th coils; is there any truth to this?

Must be something they just started...Bob
ECHO equipment has a 5 year warranty and a lifetime warranty on the coil.

Uncle emailed me back and the saw is a 400EVL. While I am kind of sad about that he will still send it up my way. His dad owned it since new and he said the saw should look like new cleaned up. Once it gets here which might be a little while I will be asking for help on it.

I talked to my uncle today and he said it will run great for five minutes and once it gets warm it shuts down. Echo shop said one of the coils is bad? I have no idea how the echos get serviced. THey must have unique coil system?

Not sure how available to the parts are for this saw but will find out once it gets here. Unlce says saw has sentimental vaule as it was his dads. Would be nice to put it back into to service.

Well the shop is probably partially right.

It won't have two coils but it will have a coil and seprate CD ignition module that can be mistaken for a coil.

I don't have time to check the IPL's right now (off to my folk's place in a minute) to see if this is any help to you.............................but I have a CS451VL parts saw you can have it it will help you. Has a good working ignition. P/C are in great shape. Good carb, AF, clutch assembly, clutch cover, etc...

Everything's there and in good order except the handlebar, handlebar brackets (bottom and top), and handlebar AB buffer stuff. The fuel tank (which is part of the crankcase) is cracked and leaks. Somebody crunched the saw pretty good. I can't quite throw it away though, since the P/C/R are so cherry and there are so many good parts. You can have it for the cost of the ride to you. Without a handlebar, it'll fit in a pretty small box...

I don't know. Gotta look through the IPL's to find out. Just got home from my folks place. I know I have the 451VL IPL. Think I have the 400EVL IPL. I'm sure Bob has both IPL's......................and knows the answer without looking at them...

I'll get back to you.

Edit:

Can't find the 400EVL IPL. I think we're going to have to wait for Bob's Echo wisdom...

A little tip as far as I know a Echo that says VL (vibe less) is a point ign.

EVL stands for electronic vibe less.

If it runs and then quits it usually is the coil, the smaller "coil" the shop referenced is the module, it is an odd setup but before I put dollar one into it I would check and clean all the contacts, especially where the plug wire goes into the coil. Don't ask me how I know this...

I wonder if it can be reto fitted back to points then? Seem like a step backwards though.
