The earthquake line of earth augers is made by a company named Ardisam. I have an auger and like it.

The saw looks like another Chinese copy of a Redmax chainsaw.

Ardisam has marketed some really interesting stuff and a few dawgs. The viper engine is pretty much a generic Chinese clone, about the same as those pocket-rocket replacement engines. They stole the old idea all those chainsaw wannabe's had in the 1950's and 1960's when they put Techumseh and West Bend motors in chain saws.

If you go onto Ardisam's site you can find owner's manuals with a parts breakdown. There are literally no service parts available for these saws, as if they understand that it would be pretty rare for anyone to actually want to service one.

A friend is thinking about buying one in the hopes the motor is the same as the 43cc motor on his (unfortunately straight-gassed) ice auger. If it is, it would be cheaper to buy a customer-returned chain saw for $80 than to buy a new replacement engine at about double that.

The augers seem to be good. They had a small cultivator like a Mantis for a while and those seemed to take a beating and a bargain compaired to the main big brands.

Yep, mini tillers, seen them advertised for several years back. Never tried one or even seen one in action though.

I worked on an earth auger for a friend, had the "viper engine" Simple carb fix and it actually would bore a hole pretty quick.....not bad for its size but i have my doubts on longevity. Definately an "occasional use" tool.

I see them for sale on the DR Mower page. Now I always thought they made their own equipment, but it wouldn't seem like DR is making these Earthquake saws. Strange. Doesn't say the country of origin either. I'd assume that means China.

Any saw called "earthquake" would get me a little nervous. I tend to stay away from power tools labeled "lightning" or "thunder" lol.

Some of the controls are on the wrong side of the handle for easy one handed operation, almost like its setup for a lefty. I guess its just the choke and priming bulb so maybe its not a big deal...just weird to not see those all on the left side of the handle.

One review says it doesn't have an automatic chain oiler, but the manual says its an adjustable oiler, so I'm guessing that review is wrong.

13.6lb?!?! Thing is heavier than a 455 Rancher and alot less power.

As a resident Californian I too would be hesitant to use a chainsaw model named "Earthquake", but perhaps the name is indicative of the poor crapsmanship, and the thing shakes, rattles, and rolls.
I wonder if they market a "Tornado" model in the Midwest, or a "Hurricane" model in the Southeast?

I like how he makes sure to start each saw with the chain brake on (as per manufacturer's safelty instructions) but then goes and hacks up an 8" ash log without chaps, gloves or a helmet.
