Not a lot of experience with Stihl oilers

Friend of mine bought a MS460 a month ago with a 25 inch bar. His chain was running pretty dry and the bar was discoloring when he was in big stuff. I showed him how to adjust the oiler, we turned it all the way up. It's better, but still seems like it's not putting out enough. I had the same issue when I bought my MS441 C-M a few weeks back. The dealer popped a high flow oil pump in and it's working perfectly.

Anyway never having played with the oil pump on a Stihl, are there any issues with swapping one out? I've done a couple of Husky's over the years and they're pretty straight forward, but if anybody has any helpful hints I'm listening.

By the way, the dealer he bought it from has never heard of a high flow oil pump, so that leaves two choices, I can do it for him if it's straightforward and won't void his warranty or I can take it to the Stihl shop I frequent and have it done. I'm assuming as the stock pump is working as it should, similar to my 441, Stihl won't pick up the tab.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Take Care

piece of cake.

remove rim, drum, clutch, cover and your there. put back in reverse. clutch is reverse threaded. stihl torque spec is 50 Nm on the clutch.

edit: also remove brake band.

no need to remove the brake band. It will fit fine

or you can upgrade the bolt and piston and save a few bucks.

1128 647 0602 pump piston

1128 647 4803 control bolt

Rep sent for this info. I know mine with a 28" bar is light I think on oil. Might try the upgrade as you posted.
Thanks

Be for you spend the money on a HO oil pump.

Have you checked that the existing one is working as it should?

When was the last time you checked the oil pick up, tank pump etc.

If that is all good and you need more oil then check out modifying the oiler.

there are some threads, mods on how to increase oiler output while you have it apart.

1128 647 4802 control bolt

whole ho pump
1122 640 3201

those 2 parts do not interchange.

Hi All
This problem can be avoided when buying a new Stihl pro saw if you buy the ( R model saw ), it comes with the HO oiler from the factory plus 3/4 wrap top handle / the large dual dogs / over sized clutch cover with roller chain catcher and extended chip deflector, well worth the extra $65.00 premium.
