As some of you know I threw a free woodsport in the Christmas giving thread.
Andy (andydodgegeek) was the first to jump, anyho he sent me a real nice MS 460 to tune up.
Got a "Little bit" done on this afternoon.
I dont use popup pistons.
stock jug.

after combustion chamber is adjusted I ended up with 5.5 cc chamber.
chamber and base cut squish set to .023. hope to end up around 180-190 psi stock was 155.

Nice work Eric. Definately a superior way to popups.

Thanks Brad ,
Yes lots of advantages, No flow interruption,, the big thing is if you need to replace the piston it as easy as putting a stock piston in.
I can definitely make more power this way over a pop up from what I have learned.

I've wanted to try that method on a saw but don't have any place local to get the machine work done.

Good stuff Eric. I'm real interested in cutting the chamber to raise compression. Do you ever have any issues with running out of the plating?????

Good luck ,, its a major pain to set up.

Oh ya you have to be careful... its no differnt than the ring land getting to close . or free porting....

Does changing the squish angle and having the sharp edge cause any problems??

I'm still running approximately 2* of angle .. that sharp edge wont be there when it all done it will be tapered off, I'll try to remember to take a pic

Crazy day didnt get much done to the 460.
I would normally polish the piston a lot more than this but it has some minor denotation and I didnt want top remove that much material.

That saw have the base gasket in it? Seems like alot of detonation on that piston. What you suppose is causing that...poor fuel?

What do you thinks is causing the detonation? Do I need to change my ways? I've always used 91 octane non oygenated fuel mixed 50-1 with stihl ultra. I keep my air filter clean, and my chain sharp. Any recomendations?
