Ok all I have to say is this blows! I found Greg (another arborist member) through ebay and bought a few things from him... One thing leads to another after speaking on the phone and before you know it Greg has immassed a giant box of parts for me over 2-3 week period. The S&H is brutal from CT to IA so I had him hold off on send until i knew everything I needed was in the box to finish 2-5 saw projects... Needless to say i was getting anxious to get these saws running before my Christmas break so I could go cutting! Greg sent out the box on 12/10 so there was plenty of time for me to receive the box and get the saws all together in time for a good cutting weekend... Well Tuesday night the package finally arrives after sitting in the Des Moines sorting center forever! All anzious I poped open the box to find....

Stihl 024 Super
Stihl 024 recoil
Stihl 009/010/011 flywheels (x2)
Stihl 009/010/011 coil-handle-1/2case...

What I didn't find and was supposed to be in there...

1x Stihl 009/010/011 complete crankcase
1x Stihl 009/010/011 oil pump
1x Stihl 009/010/011 clutch and sprocket drum
3x Stihl 009/010/011 lower roller rod bearings
1x Stihl 009/010/011 Walbro carburetor
1x Stihl 009 Clutch Cover
1x Stihl MS290 flywheel
1x Stihl MS290 carburetor (without limiter caps)
1x Stihl 009 black handle cover (this is the top of the throttle handle)
2x Stihl 009/010/011 fuel/gas caps (x2)
1x Stihl 039/390 Crank, connecting rod, piston and wrist pin assembly

How much does this suck!?!?!?

Oh and the fact that since USPS lost all these items and they weren't insured, so I'll probably never see the parts I need and if I do it won't be in time to go cutting this weekend! Not to mention I can't change my vacation now... IE: I can't cut this weekend and won't have enough vacation time go cut later this winter. Oh and the $$$ I am gonna need to spend over again these parts that I need!

This Blows! The Christmas Grinch already won and put me in a bad mood for the rest of the holiday weekend... Hope Ya'll are faring better than me!

Happy Holidays,
Nathan

PS: insure you packages if they are over $25 in value!

That sucks!

Someone here once posted that the USPS requires receipts to prove the value of missing items for insurance claims; I have no idea if that is accurate.

If they were in the same box that sucks.
My BIL just went through a similar episode with football tickets, he received an empty envelope. The postal service found an employee somewhere was taking all kinds of stuff. My BIL ended up getting the tickets in the end.

nstueve, sorry to hear of this. Maybe it will still come. Have had similar experience. USPS is going thru some BIG changes. Have a friend that retired from the PO that said morale was so bad in his office that one of the guys used to throw packages in this one corner of unclaimed packages. Said I would not believe what goes on. Was really glad to retire.

Hopefully.

Nope... I already doubled back on that with Greg and he said only 1 box was shipped with everything! I can only supply paypal receipts for several purchases from Greg for multipe items in each purchase. The USPS lady told me that was "insufficent" for reimbursement purposes. Plus it wasn't insured so the can't reimburse me... All they can do is try to find my items... Yeah right! Like that will ever happen!

I just wanted my parts!

Uh... kinda takes the air out of the room. Sorry, bud.

That's a lot of stuff to be "missing" out of one box. Any signs of damage to the box? Obvious retaping? Repackaging (lots of empty space in the box, or filled with packing material, mismatched packing material, etc.)?

Sorry to hear about this Nathan ... and talkin' about it wont bring back the parts ... but, was it apparent that the box had been opened? Why would the scumbag just take select parts?? Can't believe the thief really knew what he was taking!

thanks for the sympathy guys... guess it just doubley stinks when stuff happens right before christmas... sigh....

The box was torn up on one end and had extra tape over the top and had plastic support straps around the middle and over the top. Something had to have happened along the way. If I were someone breaking into the box I would have taken the 024 super... not all the small s***!

Sorry to hear about the parts gone missing. The post office is in the red for one reason. Terrible customer service. My company always gets conned into using USPS because the of the price.

They break and lose your stuff 80% of the time. Their response is try again and maybe add insurance. You get NO REFUND for the postage you paid to recieve. Your outta pocket again for something you have no idea you will recieve.

Insurance never pays ever.

At the very least fedex and ups will give you another try without paying double postage and most of the time they write checks for the lost items.

Other then mail like letters I hope they go out of business quicker then they are predicting. Or at the very least only allow mail and drop 60% of their work force but its the government no need to make money we'll just print some more for ya:rock:

P.S. Merry Christmas all and nstueve if i was close i'd knock down some trees with ya. My saws are orange tho with no creamcicles yet!!

I agree things are changing for the worse at the post office, I went to get my mail on Sat afternoon and heard two employees fighting when I opened my box, could not see them but they were going at it hard. I guess it is just a general lack of respect for their jobs...and we suffer the losses. As far as I'm concerned the USPS should have been bid out to private contractors years ago instead of being yet another hand in my pocket.

I'm a gov't employee but on the lower end of the pay scale and consider myself lucky to have a job... The crazy thing i can't wrap my head around is that we pay our teachers in the local grade school less than the lady that drives around to deliver mail... sound off to you???

Thanks... I'm not a hater of any saw, as long as it runs and cuts! Stihls are easy to find and fix around here... And if you absolutly have to they sell pretty easy too b/c of the name recognition... The only saw in my sig that runs right now is the 6401 and one of the 009's (sometimes- needs carb help). I turn people onto the 6401's when I get the chance!

No damage to the box? Just seems strange to me that someone at the post office would steal some random chainsaw parts and leave some others, not that it's out of the realm of possibilities. I guess I could see them falling out of the box if it was damaged, but you don't mention it in the OP.

one of my posts says a box corner was riped up and there was more tape than the sender put on the top seam. Also there were plastic support straps put on the box that have to be melted together with a machine to get them on tite. I'm not accusing any USPS employee of stealing... the parts probably fell out and will never be seen again...
