Hoss, I looked at the Akers site and only found a 655, no BP. Said it was 6 CI, and made in 1988, but not much else. From you video it was sure a strong saw, and yet I have never heard about it, which is no biggie as I don't know all that much about the older big saw compared to many on here, but it you or some of the other guys who are knowledgeable about this saw and the other Poulan's would chime in. Mark had one at the Iowa GTG and it was a real beast also, but I forgot which one it was. Thanks, JR

If you guys knew how much research and field testing went into the 655BP, you'd like them all that much more. Just the field development alone was about two years' worth.

Yeah and I have two 655's one is Boost Ported and the other is not,,, havent got to run them much but they have some Kahonnies fo sho!!!! I am still looking for a BP Cylinder and piston,,,,

Well I can only speak to the saws I have run in the condition i've run them, but here goes. I also until recently had the 655pro which is probably what you were lookin at on Acre's site. I can say that all the P60-655 saws were standouts in there size range and would probably go so far as to say that a healthy 655 pro would be a stronger saw than a Husqvarna 1100-2101. My 655pro was always faster (with same bar chain combo) than the 066DP flattop that I built and sold to my buddy. This family of saws have a healthy legend and a strong following. Anyway, that being said, the two years that Jacob pointed out that Poulan spent devoloping the Boost Ported version of the 655 definately paid off big in my book, as the 655BP is a monster of a saw and noticeably faster than the 655 pro. I will stand by my statement that it is one of the few saws I have run that legitimately cut like they are in a larger size segment. The solo 603 I had was like this also (103cc but cut like 120). I was joking around earlier about a 655BP/750 race, but I can say that if the 750 ONLY had the 13 more cc's and wasn't also a very hot (thin rings, 12,500rpm wot, huge carb) saw in it's size segment then the 655 would have no problem keeping up and even still it would be a good race in up to mid sized wood. These are my opinions and impressions, hope it helps.

I also had a 655 (just a pro I think) at the Iowa GTG but I think Marks was a BP and had the governor removed from the carb. I had not been able to run mine in big wood until the GTG so it quickly became my favorite saws in the stable. In large wood they really shine and would definitely out cut my stock 2100 thin ring, still no match for my ported 394's but there is 20 years of development between them.

Those are definitely incredible saws. Mine was not a BP, but it was a tank as well. Compression out the wazoo, and lots of arse to back up that beautiful exhaust tone!

Thanks Hoss and all others. Just one question remains, what the H*** is boost porting? I am making the assumption that BP means boost porting.

Until the GTG I thought that I had acquired the the big boss hog of all saws when I got the SP125, and then I ran Wendell's 166 and was wowed by that, then of course there was Marks Poulan of whatever number, and now another Poulan comes out of the woods. So much power, so many saws, so few dollars. What is a man to do, I guess if your Hoss, get them all. Thanks for the info guys. JR

Ian how does a healthy Homelte 650 compare with the 655Pro and 655BP?

Well Aaron, I would have said that the first 650 and then super 650 I got would be pretty even with the 655 pro, but I recently finshed the bargain buy-it-now 650 that I got from Paul Field on ebay and i'm gonna have to check the porting cuz i've never run a 650 that strong. It has the most wear of my three 650's but is far and away the best cutter. I would say in the case of that particular one that it is close (give or take) to the 655BP at least.

Well, I don't have ALL the legends yet. I still need a West Bend 820 powered saw and a 10 cube 090 and for Lee to trade me that big Skil geardrive he has. Oh yeah and a big Solo twin.

And i thought you wanted my Echo 1100VL.

I gotta keep my dreams a little closer to reality ya know. By the by, have you had any time in that big skil gear reducer yet?

P.S. Dang it, I had forgotten, now I gotta add an Echo 1100/1200 to the bucket list too.

If those are the only big cube saws you have ran then
your in for a big surprize. I could make a list of big cubers
the length of my arm. I you ever get the chance to run
a big cube geardrive or Mac kart saw, Strap yourself in,
Hang on, and enjoy the ride.
