it seems that a major customer has backed out of the deal with earthquakes for some reason leaving the parant company with some saws to get rid of. I think they are selling them almost at cost to clean them out. There is a thread "disecting an earthquake" where you can find out more information. I have only bought 6 of them. 3 seemed to have been unused, chains still in plastic. I started and ran the 3 that looked like the chains had gone around the bar.....no saw dust anywhere....and they ran great.

Man...all roads lead to earthquakes these days:laugh:

Got a RedMax GZ4000 some weeks back. 40cc, "Pro" saw, $320 plus the usual. Vice $500-something for 346xp.

All up, about 11 lb. with 16", put it in a plastic box and go to it.

Powerful, nimble, smooth, quiet, runs long time on 10 oz., "strato"- I'm really loving it. Friends who've tried it grin.

Only question is dealer availability- pretty good here in the NE. Hoping for Husqy support.

I bet you could find a Mac 10-10 in your area for les than $50.00, way more saw for the $$ than anything else, and with a little TLC will be cutting for years to come. Husky's are great I have had several, but if economizing is what you are after, hard to beat a Mac!

Stihl, Husky and Echo are the only dealers in my area. I do not do eBay so what ever is there is out. I will stop by my favorite Husky dealer today and checkout the 246, 55o and a few of the Echo saws

A 346xp or 550xp is all you need to look at - there is no true competition...:D

As a fellow Wrangler owner....

Evaluate what sort of space constraint you have. I always carry a full sized saw... When you consider all the other tools and gas that need to come with, the saw itself really isn't the part that takes up all the room.

I personally have an Echo arborists saw that takes up little or no room. Lay it blade side down and slide the blade under the backseat. My saw is short enough to let the rear tailgate shut. (when I take it along) IMO if you are really tight on space, this would be what you would want to look at.

While at the dealer, see if they have any "trade in saws", sometimes you can find a screaming deal.

Don't pull a "Jim Jones" and follow the leader thing (the loudest voices you hear here)

Check out all brands

Echo CS-520 with 16" bar ... mod by Mastermind ... just got mine last week so not a whole lot of track record with it yet, but 100% confident that it will make short work of anything you could possibly throw at a saw with a 16" bar!

I don't understand why so many are pointing at cheap alternatives here, when this is what he said;

I am looking for a quality smaller saw. I need it to toss in my jeep when I'm wheeling to cut trees out of the road and use for camping. My 2 Husky's are just to much saw. Price isn't a concern. Just need a good trustworthy saw in the 16 to 18 inch bar range.

:msp_confused:

yes you can't go wrong with that....as long as you get the old style chain tension thingy....:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

just ran mine today before the snow turned to rain...trust me when i comes to $$ this saw can't be beat! oh yeah i gots the old style BAR NUTS and tensioner. this is my loaner keep in the bed saw...and it's not going to let me down anytime soon!

if new for any price i'd take me a 500P or a 5100...just my 2cents

Just had a 445 Husky offered to me in a Pawn shop for $249.00...it looked rougher than "night in jail", they wouldn't let me take a peek @ the spark plug, run compression or bury in wood....I BOLTED LIKE SCOLDED DOG!:hmm3grin2orange:

You might check the auctions on this site. There is a unused 3800 Redmax for $250.
This is a shameless plug.:hmm3grin2orange:

The dealer is out of the 346's. He did have the 550 but ask me to wait and see what comes in on his next shipment. I don't need it today so I will wait and see what come in.
I have seen a lot of bad reviews on the Echo saws but he would stand behind them so I may shoot for one of those.

read Mastermind meets Echo 500P thread....all i know is he wanted one to beat up on the 346's at GTG's if i remember correctly...please please don't put off the echo's and other brands just cause it's not "cool" to a few people. what runs good and feels good in your hands is all that matters.

if you need my buddy's dealer has 2 346's left i can get you in touch if needed
