Randy that's part of the 33-42cc Poulan series that includes the older non-stratto Wild Things. This particular saw is a non-AV version. The EPA sticker on the 'boot plate' under the rear handle will have the true displacement. Will say "engine family 42cc" or something similar. Poulan (and therefore Craftsman) often will put a 'downgraded' displacement on the recoil cover sticker when they're meeting a lower price point............................when in fact the saw is actually 40 or 42cc.

With the case it's for sure worth $15, especially if the P/C are in good shape. The piston on those is chromed, with a bare aluminum cylinder bore (like a 3400). Looking in the port will show a bright, shiny piston............even if the cylinder is scored. Most of the time people use those once or twice, and then stick them in the garage with a tank full of fuel. The carb diaphragms, and the fuel lines and purge bulb are often shot from sitting (and that purge bulb does look wasted).......and they pull and pull and pull until they give up on it. $15 in parts and they're back up and running....

I went thru seven of that family and made four runners out of them. They were labeled from 33cc to 42cc and there was no difference in the cylinders/pistons that I could find. Toss 'em if the comp. is below 140.

My backup/rescue saw is an engine from a 42cc antivibe chassis in a 40cc solid chassis. Use the purge bulb and choke right and it starts first or second pull.

I removed all the stickers for oneryness.:msp_tongue:

Thanks to Gary for sending me the PP365 Spike.

Here it is next to the goofy original PP330 spike, and then mounted on the saw along with the 20" .325 pitch K095 mount Husky branded PowerMatch bar that I modified to oil through the adjuster holes like a K041 mount bar. Oils very well. Now to get the saw running right so I can use it. Will order a carb and hope an HDA137 arrives (and solves the problem). Please excuse the cluttered workbench.....

Needs more beer cans. If PBR can be considered beer.

That's not cluttered .... it's informally organized. :msp_thumbup:

LOL. I'd JUST cleared more than a few of those off to make room for the saw. Full cans are in the shop fridge on top of the filing cabinet which is about four feet to the left of the saw. PBR's and Samuel Adams right now...

For anyone that didn't alread know...........Here's a pic of the fuel tank vent setup as used in the older saws in this series, as well as the 3400-4000 and PP375-395. Slips through a hole in the top of the tank from the inside..........with the vent and plastic fitting inside the tank.

I like a well-equipped shop and it appears you have one. Mine looks about like yours most of the time...

I see it made it. Looks good. I replace every one of those goofy big ones with the normal size spikes.

Aaron,
Is that part # for just the duckbill and you put it together with other parts or was it the whole valve assy?

Gary 530026119 is the # (both Poulan and Husqvarna) for the duckbill valve. The fitting I used came from a Micro parts saw, but it's similar to what was used on the 3000 and other older Poulans in the 3000/3450/330/etc family. 530024475 is the number for the 3300 fitting. $.69 from Jack's. The fitting for the Micro is 530023877 (and $1.60).

anyone have a pic of the tank vent for a 336?

Same as what I pictured. It may also have a vent 'cover' fitting on the other end of the line if it hasn't been lost. Passes through the top of the fuel tank near where the fuel line goes through. Yellow line in the picture of my 'retrofitted' PP330 tank. The actual placement of the 336 vent line may be farther forward, to the left of the carburetor.

Aaron, if you don't muffler mod that saw before you start using it you will shortly. The mod is the only way these saws run decent.

You mean to tell me that wild thing was an actual running saw, not some gimmick. I do not think I have ever seen a pic of a chainsaw with NOS on it before let alone a wild thing.
