I have a chance to buy a very nice makita 6421 20" saw with 3 brand new chains in great shape for 250 bucks I am just curious if they are decent saws I run a husqvarna 346xp and a 257 but I do not know about the makitas any help would be appreciated! I am new to the site and I hope I am posting this in the right site! Thanks

Go get it before it's sold. the 6401/6400/6421's sell for around $600 new. With the money you save buying used you can get a heavy duty air filter (hdaf), and a bigger piston and cylinder (P&C). You can get a 79cc OEM or 84cc aftermarket P&C for that saw to really make it scream!

It will easily handle a 24in bar and is one of the best saws in the 60-70cc saw class. By best I mean that it is a proven performer that can be easily upgraded to handle bigger bars if need be in the future. It also has one of the best anti-vibe systems which really helps on a full days cutting.
GO GET IT RIGHT NOW!

PS: pics or it didn't happen since you're a newbie... WELCOME to AS!

Great saw, just bulky and heavy.

I just sold my 6401 and am having regrets now. BTW, it was for $375 and a pos chain on it.

It's a great saw IMO. I recently bought a used 6421 and it has replaced my MS 361. I paid $200 with a 20" bar and one chain. I didn't even haggle on the price, which is unusual for me. After I checked the compression and ran it I HAD to have it.

PS- Welcome to AS!

Great saw, great price. Go for it. If you decide you don't like it, at that price you can get your money back out of it easy enough.

Would you be caught dead in an AMC Pacer?

need a dislike button here...

And Brad, don't be jealous b/c you aren't cool enough to have a licorice dome in your car like Wayne and Garth!

To answer the question... Who wouldn't want to be seen on Saturday nights in this pimp ride!

Yeah - hatin' on the Pacer is over the line!

This explains a lot!!!..........Pacer Lovers!:msp_wub:

nah... I'm more of a Yota lover myself. I just don't think ur giving the Dolly's a fair shake. Especially when you and Troll are the only ones that want to bag on them... :tongue2:

When I was a kid there was often some guy with an AMC in the neighborhood, and usually they were a little "off" in various ways. Now that I'm older I am that guy, although I don't have any AMC products anymore. But I still want a '75 Matador coupe, an Eagle-based 4WD or a Pacer.

1) They are one of the best saws around of ANY brand.

2) They do NOT need to be upgraded to anything, they will run with saws much bigger just as they are.

3) They will pull a 28" bar in the hardest red oak in western Kentucky with ease. Don't believe it? I've got the video.

4) You have to put a TREMENDOUS amount of work, time and money into a 361 to make it outcut a STOCK 6400/6401. Don't believe it? Ask "Pacer Boy" or Fatguy!

5) If you don't like it, I'll gladly give you your money back....................+ shipping!!!

6) They don't need a heavy duty air filter kit, you need to learn to sharpen a chain.

7) Brad has obviously not had his butt kicked by a 77 Pacer with a 304 and four bbl. carb, but that is exactly what would have happened if he had ever met up with one!!!

And the 401 block is exactly the same dimensions. When I was a teenager the fastest car around was supposedly a Gremlin with a 401 and dual quads.
