Hey guys seen alot of bad word on dolmar breathing issues. Also hear the issue has been fixed.

My dad was lookin at the Dolmar 421. How does it do? And will it hold up to year round heavy use?

Told him 510 is better choice, but wallet is main issue.

Help!!!

The only issue i have heard from dolmar is that they have sketchy dealer support.(not as many dealers) The 421 will hold up just fine. Its a pro built saw for a homeowner price. Example-
The 421 offers
Adjustable oiler (just one of the many things)
Which other brands of the comparable size dont offer.
The airfilter hasnt been a problem from what ive heard
I really dont think you would be disappointed.
Tell your old man to GO FOR IT AND DONT LOOK BACK!!!!

Ok. Another reason i was worried is that most saws with a primer bulb act weak.
Also we will be sawing about 300 truck loads of wood in the next couple months n wanting to know if this smaller saw will hold up.

Have a 421 and I like it, there very good value saws. They unfortunately don't get enough credit. My dealer is very informative and well stocked. In my opinion the 510 is heavy and under powered and i would rather run a 5105

WAIT WAIT Saw troll has arrived so now its going to be-

That Saw is poorly designed underpowered and overweight :p

Seriously though-
That saw wont let you down and make good power, BUT why are you looking for a 40cc saw when 300 truckloads of wood should be a 70cc saws job??
Unless its real small wood
Just curious

Wallet is light. Most stuff will be 14-20" dia.
Told him for another 80 he can get the 510.

Im worried about the small size. He saws good but if i run it ill run hard n fast. I make saws work lol.

But all BS aside, it comes down to cost vs. how well it will hold up.

I know Dolmar makes great saws, but dont want him to shell out over 300 for something that wont last the next 15-20 years.

Were sawing alot of firewood and lets face it, constant sawing will hurt any saw eventually. Looking for the best all-around saw.

Then go get the Dolmar 421.

If not convinced then check out the thread by brad a few years ago on the 420 model. He really loves it.

Ya got that thing bought right?
LOL

Just another thing to throw in is that the Dolmar line carries a line of TRUELY REBUILDABLE chainsaws. Non of this PITA clamshell stuff. The only thing that i know of that Dolmar carries a remotley clamsahell design is the ps-32 which is their "Homeowner Special"
So Run it like you stole it, IT WONT let you down

I will say it- 14-20" is 60cc territory. It can be done with smaller, but bigger would work better. If you dad has problems toting a heavier saw, then I understand. But the weight savings of the 421 isn't that great over some of the (stronger) 50cc saws.
