This thread is severely lacking in cast aluminum content.:msp_scared:

(Old pictures from my library.)

I just love the dual fuel caps for faster pit stops.

I passed on an old poulan similar to that a few months ago because I couldn't ID it. :msp_sad: Tried surfing around on the acres site and didn't have any better luck pinning it down.

I have a few of those old critters as well.

Guido,
What model is the one on the top of the first picture and the bottom of the last picture, the yellow one with the full wrap handle and the spark plug in the rear of the cylinder head, not the side?
Looks like the same saw I've got without the bow bar and I haven't been able to figure out which model it is for sure.

Ebay seller has this one but IDK if it is the right one for the clutch side of the 475
Poulan 505275715 Seal Ring POU505275715 Fits KS412 Gas Saw New Genuine Part | eBay

The part number I have for the clutch side oil seal is 503--422201. Take out the dashes and google it. There are some places that claim to have it but I searched and searched at one time and they are NLA. I believe there is a replacement but like I said I need to look at my notes. I just moved so it will take some time to find them.

So I re-did some of my research on this seal for the Poulan 475 clutch side.
The seal measures ID. 17mm
OD. 35mm
Width. 4mm

Now what is hard to find about this seal is the width. I just could never find one that was only 4mm thick and if you put one in wider than that, then the oil pump will not mount flat against the saw. So with that said I found one seal that could be modified and could work.

It is a SKF 6814. It measures. ID. 16mm
OD. 35mm
Width. 7mm

I measured the actual width of the rubber seal itself and it is only 4mm in width. So the metal could be ground down to the required 4mm and I do not believe the ID being 1mm off would be a big deal.

So if I had a 475 that needed a seal for the clutch side that is what I would try.

You need to measure the bore to start pinning it down. Just off hand I know that a 2 1/6" bore would be a 82cc and a 2 3/16" bore would be 92cc.

Find that out and we will go from there.

See in how you guys brought up the sand cast saws....

Chris come by for a while today and he gave me a hand modifying the 33" bar that I picked up from Cowroy earlier this summer to mount on the Super 72.

That was the easy part. I had picked up some 1/2 chain this spring that turned out to be McCulloch chain which was fine but I didn't have the proper presets and tie straps to make up a chain to fit this 33" bar.

One of our fine members here who dabbles in McCullochs did come to my rescue with a couple proper tie straps and presets to help me out.

We got the bar fitted up and with much care got the measurement right to cut and spin up a loop of 1/2" chipper chain and got it all mounted on the Super 72.

I was anxious to give it a try since the bow on it did little to give it any strain on it at all.

Biggest piece of wood I got here right now was only 24" or so and to be honest, it didn't give it much strain at all either. You can lean hard on it and it don't even change exhaust tone. :msp_wink:

I'm going to see if I can get some 4'-5' logs over here in the near future to give it something to bury it in. The other thing is we need something that big to try that 60" bar on Chris's KB7 on.

a cleanup

I havent had a ton of time this summer to really dig into the project saws, so instead of getting involved in big projects Ive been working on some of my runners. Iven been wanting to cleanup this little 2800 for a while. I use this saw quite a bit, for many obvious reasons, its lightweight, fast and dependable. So the other day I took it down a bit and cleaned and inspected it. Also tuned the carb a bit to sharpen up the throttle response. I broke the handguard last winter. We were cutting on a 4* day in Feburary and I dropped my hatchet on the guard, so cold it snapped like a twig. It wears a 15" .325 bar, chain and rim and a loop of RSC. It cuts fast.

Could just be that I haven't been flea market or yardsale crawling in ages.
But been a while since I've seen one of those old finger loop bottles
like's on ModifideMarks bench.

Thanks for the info!!!

UPDATE- may have found OEM source, placed order for 2 sets, will update if it goes through or if I get the dreaded order update of NLA.

Batting only 33%.

Changed out the pumps on the Wildthing and the 220 but still no oil at the chain. Used two from the junk pile that appeared good and lubed them with white lithium grease.

220 is making a racket from the clutch at idle.

The 1950 runs great and oils like it is $5 a barrel.
