I would like to get one saw ported just not sure which one, also if anyone knows of someone in montana that can port a saw that would be nice also

Anybody???
someone must have an opion which saw should get done
the MS261 has a 16 inch bar and the MS261C has a 18 inch bar

Where can I buy a loop of Square Grind chain for each?

Do you like tried and true or somethin new ? , your choice !
I would say I want to port the saw that has the most potential, I suspect the MS261 would be easier to have done as there are more individuals that have worked on them and possibly even someone here in Montana.

A stopwatch declares the winner as far as speed goes , buy what you like they are the same saw other than the addition of m-tronic
It's not about buying what I like, I already own both saws, I just want to port the one that will make the most power, I want the saw that will give me the biggest bang for my buck or the most horsepower

I still contend that a ported, strato gutted, regular 261 will make the most power. Several have commented that they run more like a 70cc saw than a 50cc saw once ported.
So The regular 261 is the one to have ported, now I am looking for someone here in Montana to do it!
anybody ?
Maybe a Muffler mod for the MS261C

l have a non Mtronic strato gutted MS261 that Bradley S. ported for me and l thought long and hard about going down this route as l love Mtronic and already had a pre Mtronic 261. l really wanted the new beaut 'CM' model but this saw was to be a runner and that came first. Well l am sure l made a good decision as to say that l was impressed would be an understatement. This saw outcuts my Husky 555!! What Brad changes lMO is lift the powerband giving HIGH rpm under load in the cut. My old unported 261 would sit between 8-9500 in the cut where the ported saw will sit between 10500-12000 in the cut. The saw really does cut more like a 60-70cc saw with nice light wieght. lt's got one hell of an attitude and with 361 Dbl dawgs and 3/8 chain, l certainly found what l was dreaming for. Am so glad l went down the road l did:) . lf however l was buying a stock 261 it would be an Mtronic for sure.

The old non mtronic will have the most gains I've been told, but I also hate the ms362, so I was very reluctant to try the ms362cm, with the new controls, air filter, and mtronic, I absolutely love my mtronic ms362cm, easiest starting saw that I have ever witnessed.

I strongly believe that my old ms261 couldn't be beat my a new one, but since I like the ms362cm so much, then I have decided to try the ms261cm.

Does the m tronic compensate automatically after porting, timing & compression or do you still have to initially tweak something?

To add to your confusion, I had a strato gutted ported 261. Sold it and bought a ported 261 cm. I have no plans to go back. I cant tell that one is faster/stronger than the other but I can tell the CM starts easier and is always in tune and running at 100% peak performance. If you want to jack with a screw driver get the OE. If you want to pull it 3 times, cut wood and only stop for fuel/sharpen chain/clean filter then get the CM. Just my .02 They are both great saws, just 2 different flavors.

I am leaning towards porting the Regular 261 and if I am not satisfied I will end up doing the 261C also

Now I just have to find a builder in Montana
