for having as many saws as you do?

I realize CAD works on here but from what i have found it doesnt so much work with the friends, family or significant other. So how do you rationalize it to them?

i keep looking at my shelf of saws an asking myself do i really need that many? probably not but i like having doubles (no idea why) and i like having a saw from each class of saw. But its tough to rationalize all the saws with having one crab apple tree in the yard. My reasoning to my fiancee is we may need them at the next house and i have enough to run a crew if needed and i pointed out all my saw came in handy when i needed to help her brother clear 14 trees.

So far its working but i dont know for how long.

You don't. Just turn your head when they start wagging theirs.:dancing::guitar:

Put those saws to work would be my advice. You really do need different sizes of saws for various tasks, if for nothing other than the safety factor. You don't want to use a heavier saw than needed for the task at hand. It just increases risk to you.

After you have worked with various saws, you can thin the herd. And if you are buying used, you really aren't going to lose much money.

It helps if you can use them for volunteer work. That alone is a good reason. Right now I'm just into firewood for those who need heating assistance in our county, but after I retire, I'm going to try to join a disaster relief group in the area and go help with storm cleanup. When I'm no longer fit to run a saw, I intend to outfit a support trailer so I can follow a crew and keep their saws running. When you go out a few times in 17 degree weather to cut firewood for someone else, the wife knows you are committed.

You guys know about the difference between involvement and commitment right? It's like a ham and egg breakfast, where the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed. : )

The truth is all, if anything, that needs to be said whether that be - it is one of my hobbies; I use them; I think they are a good investment (probably fooling yourself on that one); they look good and are just shop decor; etc. Ron

We were having some kind of family get together. My sister's boy friend says "So Duane, how many chainsaws do you have"? I could have kicked him in the sack :dumb: Nobody believed my answer; I changed the subject to the vast quantity of standing dead on the family farm:crazy2:

I can't explain it, rationalize it or anything like that. I make no effort to make up excuses. It is a problem to some, but mine have not made it into the house yet hahahahaha although the extra bedroom has two motorcycles stashed.

My wife is a saint
