I try to shop around and have at least 4 chains in the rotation at a time.

Found some 91VXL for $11.xx a loop this winter for my smaller saw. Man that was a good deal.
I just bought six loops of 91vXL-55 from LCS for $10.61 a loop.
They have some great prices on Oregon chain right now.

Between yesterday and this morning I've ran over 4 tanks of fuel through the saw with this chain and its still razor sharp. That's including cutting 1/2 cord of skidder dragged hardwood which I guarantee had some grit. For this kind of durability I have no problem paying significantly extra for this chain.

I bucked a larger birch and the 550 with chisel was every bit as fast as my 2165 was with semi chisel.

So I put that Stihl chain on May 24th. Just took it off today. Amazing cutting speed and held it's edge much longer than Carlton or Oregon. I cut about 7 cords with it and didn't even touch it up at all. Finally rocked it good cutting maple tops. Luckily I had another loop in the truck.

I paid $50 CDN ($40 USD) for 113DL of RS in skiptooth, probably a little more for full comp I'd guess. It does seem to work pretty good

From my observations, Stihl chain is a bit harder than Oregon/Husky chains, but no biggie. What seems to be very important is, that Stihl chains have thicker chrome plating on the cutter. Thus the edge can hold more abuse than Oregon/husky chains. For soft, clean wood, you can easier sharpen and maintain edge on the Oregon, which will be somehow faster in the cut. Because the Stihl thick chrome plating always creates a little dull spot in the edge, esp. when filing. Seems to me that only grinder with water cooling and diamond wheel can realy sharpen Stihl RS to full potential. As the plating is thinner on the Oregon, the dull spot is smaller, so the utmost edge is sharper.
Summed up, for clean soft wood and maximum speed in the cut, I have Oregon chisels. For hardwoods, longevity and durability the Stihl RMC any time, hands down. For full chisel in hardwoods, or maximum efficiency on mixed job as not to touch up the chain so often or not packing several loops with me, Stihl RS.
As per my experience, chain brand loyalty is not a good way to get the best for the job ahead. Just my 0,02

RS or RM that is the question the dealer only carries RM , i would like to try the RS line.
What's the difference again? Which is full chisle?

The nearest Husqvarna dealer is also a Stihl dealer and I want to try some of this wonder chain you guys speak of. I normally use Carlton and think its better than Oregon but have never tried the Stihl chain. At my Jonsered dealer the Carlton costs $1 per inch of bar (+$2), so 18" bar (68 DL) is $20... I haven't bought chain from the Husky/Stihl but want to give it a try.
