Wasn't really sure where to put this, but thought I would share regardless.

My dad and I are currently in the process of building our own boiling shack.

The wood we are using is from a removal job we did where we got to keep 20 or so spruce logs. Our neighbour has a mill so we payed him for his time and gas and got some pretty sweet lumber out of it.

Everything you see in the pictures, as crappy as they are, minus the crosser beams in the middle of the shed, which you can't really see, was from the lumber we milled. We will be back at it this weekend and hopefully finish before the snow hits, I will try and get some better pictures then...

That going to be completely enclosed?

What is that floor? Separate concrete slabs? They looks kinda funny....

This is some low budget canadian redneckery

The concrete slabs are from my dads work, they used to have large hydraulic recycling bins on them. Underneath them is leveled limestone screenings, so they shouldnt move too much.

And yes, it is to be completely enclosed with 2 4ft barn doors and one window for light/pumping hose to go through. Some of the space will be used for wood storage

Next year will be building/buying the syrup paraphernalia

Whitty, once you get ready to buy a boiler, have a look at this guy's site: www.stainlesssteelcreations.net .
I bought a 2ft.x4ft. pan from him two years ago and it is VERY well made!! Excellent welds, heavy gauge steel and the female fitting welded right in the bottom corner. His prices are reasonable (every once in a while he runs a sale on some stuff) and delivery is fast.
I just built a base of dry-stacked concrete blocks with chimney at the back and rest the pan on top. I can boil off about 30 Gallons an hour with a good fire.

Nice looking frame, btw ; I'm still boiling out in the open, a shack is on the to-do-list:D

Depends where this guy is...

Shipping a box of air to canada from the states is a million bucks to some American vendors...

Whitty21, keep an eye on kijiji, sometimes guys are upgrading and deals can be had. Guy at work bought a real nice pan last fall for peanuts. Where are ya from, Ontario is a big place?

I am near Barrie, Its been a while since we got wrecked by a tornado, unlike Goderich...

Thanks man, I will keep a lookout

I'm going to move this into firewood/wood burning forum, probably a better place. Looking forward to progress pics.
Thats cool.

I found it hard to find a place to put this...

Dang americans and your lack of appreciation for maple syrup...

30 gallons an hour on a 2x4 pan is cranking, we have a 18"x60 3 chamber pan and struggle to get 15. The shack looks great. Are you going to include a roof vent?

The plan as of now is to build a stainless hood for the pan with a vent heading out the wall

Whitty21, I work for Royal Homes, one of our sales centers is in Innisfil. Did a house there 2 weeks ago. I very seldom go thru Barrie without stopping at Princess. I was also in the Newmarket one yesterday and in Kitchener on Sunday. Tomorrow morning I'm going to the new one in Owen Sound. No wonder I never get anything done on my splitter.
