I was trying to find a way to avoid buying the $19 moulded fuel line from my dealer and came up with this. I buy one of their pig tail fuel lines and a fuel line grommet from a 338xpt. Comes to $10. Then it is cheap to replace just the fuel line in the future. The last picture is of a 181, the tank had to be drilled with a 5/16 bit to open it up a little for the grommet. It seems like the 181 has a little smaller opening for the fuel line. This might work with the 266 series also.

I work on motorcycles and many/most prefer Tygon fuel lines when possible. AP's stores have it in the roll by sizes. I get it in foot pieces. Lasts better than any and very flexible.

Your dealer is a rip I got factory line for like $ 7.50. If he has old stock he sells it off cheap, if you have to order it you pay full price.
Yup, no price breaks. He says the moulded 288 line lists for $17, plus tax. Whether that is truthful, or a hell of a markup, I don't know.

lists and real price is 2 different things alot of parts store is like that and sorry but your dealer is a crook

go to a parts store and there is a cost and list price and the list price is almost double the cost and if you just want to charge list price i find another dealer like i did here i have a stihl dealer that charged me 30 dollars for a 18 inch chain for my 026 when i found another stihl dealer 20 miles from me he charged me 22 tell me what you would do i also get my bar oil from the same dealer i get my bars from and he sells it for 11.29 a gallon where the dealer here sells for over 15 dollars ill be damned if i buy from a dealer that uses list price

You didn't answer the question as to why he is a "crook". A merchant can charge whatever price he may choose, the buying public will decide if it is reasonable. If do do not agree with the pricing at a particular establishment, you have the option to purchase the item elsewhere.

I did answer but if you can't read maybe you should just click ignore to my posts this is the forth time you've tried to ridicul me if you want to pay more for parts then by all means take one for the team

Given the incorrect grammar, lack of punctuation, run on sentences and misspellings, your posts are difficult to understand. However, you have not provided any evidence of wrongdoing or illegal activity which describing him/her as a "crook" would indicate.

Per your request, you are on ignore and I will not have to insult my intelligence trying to decipher what you have written.

this is what i do too. marine shop here sells the perfect grommets for this job. cheaper and easier. i don't use that tygon junk though.

For my own saws I have used the fuel line through the grommet trick a few times but the real trick is to build a good relationship with your dealer and you can get fair pricing. For a customer it is always an OEM line.

How much was the fuel you used to drive the 40 mile loop? How much is your time worth.
Convenience adds an assuned amount of cost. That's why 7-11 can charge what they do for a gallon of milk. At 2am, when everything else is closed, what are you gonna do?

By the way @marti384 , HL Supply has A/M molded 288 fuel line on sale for $9.99, regularly priced at $14.99

Hey, I hear you. Nothing like making a day of it, but if it's a "need it right now" purchase........I would be inclined to try, and work a deal on two, or more loops.
Also, I think it's fairly common knowledge that I am a big proponent of developing relationships with any OPE dealer I visit with any regularity. A dozen fresh doughnuts in the morning occasionally can pay dividends down the road.
