Would you be upset to spend close to $600 on having a saw ported (work plus shipping) only to have the saw crap out not even a full tank in?

Seems to be carb problems so we can fix.

Contacted the porter after many tries and pretty well was "deny deny deny" and "huh... that sucks".

Carb was never touched. It was supposed to be a full rebuild, I had sent the saw in parts, carb was together though. I'm not sure how it was tuned with a carb running so pig rich that I could start it no choke at 5*.

I had boxed up another saw to send to them, but they for sure lost that business. More so thinking to just leave stock, what a waste of money, could have bought another saw!

Mistakes happen, but the "support" after... ha, what a joke!

I'm not naming anyone, if they read this they know, I guess very much buyer beware.

I know it will turn into an unneeded fight on here.

Question...
If you have a business Facebook page, does it make any sense to keep it on Facebook if it "hasn't been checked in 3 years"?
Uh... pull the page down at least? Or is it really that hard to check once a week or so?

I wrote them several messages on there, I had no idea I was was just wasting my time since it'd never be read.

I wanted them to know about the issue and how to proceed, it very much was not accusing anyone or anything like that, just wanted the saw running is all.

I hope whoever it is bucks up and makes it right. Also assume they're on this site ...... A carb issue is a simple thing but for the money tied up looks like you could at least get a rebuilt carb sent to you . That's bare bones minimal for that money agree?????

I don't send mine out either if I was a logger yeah I would I have a 346 that's ported it is cool but... Not worth spending money to send one out I'm happy with my saw that's ported as I bought it from a member here But I'm not sendin any up the road

Yeah once I'm back to work (recovering from bad pnemonia still) I'll either put a carb kit or new carb.

Yes a carb kit or carb offered would have been quite fair, but instead it was "deny/pass the buck".

It opens the question, how was the saw tuned with the carb not working right?

It was blamed on shipping, but the carb needed work when I sent it. It was never worked on, so I'd have to assume the saw never tuned.

I had a 460 that was ported, it made a 660 seem "meh". I crushed that saw last year (ran it over with a delimber), and the replacement which is bone saw is "meh". Id like to wake it up but...

$600 for porting plus shipping??? What? That's insane. And you supplied the carb so if they did fire it off and tune how can you blame a part you supplied? That stinks.

For 600 he should have gotten a new saw..... The porting man was supposed to rebuild the saw that's how you blame the man that worked on it because the guy didn't fix the saw he half assed it for that number there's no excuse as to why it's that way

No, no, about $600 total. $400 for porting/putting the saw together and shipping. Shipping was around $60-70 each way.

It was a saw that the crank bearings locked up and had only 120 psi compression. I tore it down and cleaned it, sent all the parts plus a full rebuild kit.

It was ported and put together. I fueled it and ran it a few mins, ran fine.
Next use it flooded out, found out it didn't need choke to start. Seemed to run rich at bit.
Next use gas while running gas started leaking (from carb? and quit running (bogging).

Saw used just to cut 40ft logs into 20ft so not much use, used maybe 1/2 tank total.

Did the builder rebuild the saw? Did he say he would rebuild the carb? Was it test ran by the builder before shipping? So many variables here but still, $600 for a full rebuild and porting seems like, well, a bit much.

What saw if I can ask?

If a builder rebuilds a saw for 400 it should come back pristine nuff said of course he shoulda checked the carb why the hell not ? I mean really ? I don't know either party but 400 .... Dude coulda stood up an said **** send it back and took care of shipping or at least sent out a rebuilt carb. If I was running a saw business and expecting top dollar money for port work that's the way I'd expect to run my business

Being most builders are in the 250-300 range for porting not counting shipping I'd certainly expect something decent for that price.

With the absolutely fanatical fanfare surrounding saw builders on this and other sites I have to ask (with no honest intention to bust your balls), what is the intention of this thread if you aren't going to out the builder?

I guess I would be unhappy that is the question that is asked here.
$400 labor
$70 parts
$130 shipping
The saw had "the crank bearings locked up" so it seems the parts were bearings and a rebuild kit whatever that is. $400 for labor most of it likely modifying a cylinder that had the lower end seize up? Am I getting confused here?

What is the chance a carburetor can be damaged shipping in a high airplane un pressurized.
The problem here may not really be porting.
I read de limber that runs over and pneumonia. Heavy equipment repairs and medical stuff sound like an order of magnitude different in $. What does a chest x ray cost and then how much to have it looked at. What recourse does someone have with poor workmanship on the medical front? You have to promise to pay the bill for that stuff but they do not have to say what they intend on charging. Even after paying they won't give me a receipt say it might be re coded. At last that is the way has been for me.

you guys have to remember that VF always exaggerates x2 and sometimes x3. everything seems normal once you put that into perspective. lol for anyone to pay more then the going rate for porting that isn't worth the money in the first place is just bizzare. the only possibility here is at the very minimum a x2 exaggeration on his part. wouldn't be the first time either.
