I need help on this sign I picked up the other day. If anyone knows if this sign was once a lighted dealer sign I'd appreciate some insight. Also could it be repaired to shine again if it was indeed lighted? It measures about 4 ft tall by 6 ft. long. Thanks everyone. 20161013_163348.jpg

See you've been here a while. But I've not seen you around before so hi :).

Bill is correct that it most likely is from a two sided sign and you have only one side. I have seen this style as a wall mounted which would be attached to the front of a building, but they were usually built for mounting on a pole.

It is a face from a sign cabinet and it was most likely a lit sign built with extruded aluminum. The cabinet would have had fluorescent bulbs in it as well as raceways and sockets to hold them, and ballast and various wiring also to provide the power.
You could make a cabinet out of some wood using a miter saw to cut the outer frame and then a table saw to cut the grooves for the sign face to fit into with some sort of plywood for the back. Then you could use leds to light it as they are safer(low voltage, and run cooler) and easier to wire into it.
Basically what you have would be like a piece of glass that slides into a picture frame except your "glass" the sign face is raised/embossed.
Feel free to ask if you don't understand what I'm saying and I can get you some pictures. You can also do some homework yourself by looking at prelit signs for sale on the web.
Nice sign face by the way.
Hope this helps,
Brett

It's a plastic sign, really :nofunny:.
I know your exaggerating, but wow.
Get online and buy one:buttkick:.
For real:cheers:.
And welcome to AS:lol:.
Well considering I'm on a chainsaw enthusiast forum, I have to have an unhealthy interest in everything chainsaw related, right? I've been online and looked at similar signs, most are selling for upwards of $1,000. Not sure if you're just giving me **** but I'll take the welcome to AS and say thanks.

No, you don't ;).
I like saws a lot, but just as my signature says, they are just stuff made of metal and plastic.
Where is bay view, if I hear of something you may like I'll let you know, that way no one has to die ;).
And the welcome still stands :).

I see stuff in Milwaukee all the time. I buy and sell a lot on CL and pass thru Milwaukee in my searchs often to get to Chicago. I keep an eye open for stuff for different people all over the country.
It's not you I was emailing with who has the 200t is it. It's listed in both Milwaukee and Chicago. I was looking for another rear handled one or a 201 with the rear handle.

I got a double sided one for $20 and it even works!
Give ya a fifty .
Awesome find Rory any pictures that would help the OP. Especially if you got one with the side of the cabinet off, it's the least you could do after a deal like that. Don't worry, Iwould be the last person to say you got lucky, I'm sure you worked hard for it or other stuff:cheers:. Besides :thisthreadisworthlesswithoutpictures:

No ****! I just threw out a Husqvarna and Jonereds sign like that. We reused the frames for new signs.
VF if you only new how many times I did that working in the sign business.
It's like me going to get logs from the tree guys. I pull up and have to wait for him to finish chipping so he can send his guy to the dump with the chips. I'm sitting there cringing every time he sends a tree, yes a tree into that giant chipper. But I still leave with a nice load of wood, and on life goes.
