And did it weigh 25lbs? LOL

Cool score, Tim. That one should be lots of fun for a long time!

Picked up this little guy in a mini-score of my own a couple days ago. It's in remarkably good condition under all the funk. Been well used, but well taken care of until it got put away for who knows how long before I got it. Killer compression. Bright blue spark. Tank is spotless. Brand new Stihl chain and paint is still on the bar nuts. Gotta love the oil tank cap, tho. Not sure what someone was thinking there..., unless it was for draining the tank without making a mess..., which is actually a pretty good idea if ya think about it. Only obvious issues I've found so far is a sticky recoil and the fuel line is sloppy at the tank and will leak. Fingers crossed for a good tank seal.

And yep...., it has one o' these.

Mix and starting instructions where you'd never lose em, if you ever found em in the first place.

Good looking 2-10 Poge. I picked a nice one sometime ago but mine has an SDC on it.
I've fixed a couple of lines that leak at the tank by pulling it towards the rear handle and putting a bit of Motoseal on the line. Several guys use a couple of wraps of teflon plumber's tape if you want to pull the line out.

Besides making a new tank gasket, I've had equally god luck by not touching the gasket and putting some Motoseal on top of the gasket

Mind had a .354 pitch chain on it. I'll be darned if I can find where I put it.

Anyone looking for sp80/81 parts, I have 3 complete saws tore down in parts. Was gonna build one out of the mess, but since gaining this runner I think I will help some others get one going. I'm gonna keep a few things for spares, but the majority of it can go. Would trade for a 30ish inch sprocket nose bar.

You are that!
Were you looking to ditch the whole saw or parting it out?

I could use a few parts but the cost of shipping that beast whole is prohibitive. The last time I checked it was $100+ US to ship a saw to Canada. which is like $130+ Canadian.
Tim, I'm only couple hundred clicks from Canadian border, BUT, on the other side of the continent. Acres site says power head is 23 pounds..I can sure check shipping on this end, or let me know what you need or could use.. I just love tearing machines apart. My prices are real reasonable. Let's put that bar in the wood.. I didn't know I had a 125 till I happen to kick it couple months ago. Came in on one of my deals. From where I have no idea.. Just let me know, CHEERS. K

Welcome to the world of flatback carburetion.. Looks exactly like my 2-10.. Who'd a thunk

Should be fun.

Teflon tape and Motoseal is the plan after a cleanup..., just to see what I may be in for with the carb. LOL

And Toof, my SP81 started out a lot like yours 'cept it didn't run due to a broken keyway on the crank. I also sorta hosed up the original fixed jet carb and ended up switching tanks (courtesy of MarkH) to run a fully adjustable carb. It also had been chipped and I went back to points. Have a hiccup there somewhere that I just shelved but is getting closer to the front of the line again. It's long overdue. I rattle can painted it and got a decal from Sugar Creek. Would rather have it runnin' right than lookin' good, tho. But I had to get the bar. A guy on the bay was selling them super cheap as 'best offer' about the time I was winding this up. He took 50 bux including shipping for this 28" and I heard some went even cheaper. They were all gone in two or three days or I probably would have gotten another one

WOW! looks new. Nice job on the paint. I've painted a few and then proceed to scratch them all to hell.

Pogo, I just got really lucky on this one. I wasn't even 100% on what exactly it was. I took a gamble and it paid off. I have spare parts, and I am pretty sure I could build another runner pretty easy. The question is time. I don't want to be the guy hoarding parts that could fix someone else's saw. I may tear this one down and give it a paint job, and sooner or later it's gonna be wearing one of those nice mac bars

Thanks guys. Was my first actual Mac project and I bought it with the intention of rebuilding it to get my Mac feet wet. Sat for a long time before I eventually got around to it. In the meantime I acquired quite a few more 10 series and a few of the more common large framers as more future projects.
The build is documented somewhere..., maybe over on OPIE. Don't remember where I was begging for the most advice, there, or here! I sure received plenty from all the usual contributors and learned a lot along the way. Just need to work out a small ignition glitch as mentioned. Hopefully soon.

Hey,

I have a SP81 that I got last fall. Low on compression. I don't know exactly what it needs since I am still in the middle of rebuilding my PM800 and haven't torn into the SP. Are you possibly willing to part with cylinder and piston from one of yours that has good compression??

Rob

Blue, the points ignition set I have is spoken for, I do have one from an 81e that could be used.

The black on white finishes seem a lot more rugged than the yellow or grey on black...., I'd say similar to a modern Stihl or Husky finish. They'll still show wear after moderate use like any bar.
Ok cool was just wondering if my 800 was still on its original bar. Other than the lying in a pic up bed dings it seems very fresh. Speaking of paint the 800 yellow paint is a odd color compaired too other macs do you guys try n match that color or revert back to the older mac yellow. Nice paint on that sp81 do you run it often?

As mentioned, my SP81 has an ignition issue that I've not pursued since finishing the rebuild. I hope to revisit that very soon.

There seems to be at least three different shades of Mac yellow across the various eras. The common "go to" rattle can solution seems to be Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow (which I used on the SP81) followed by OSHA Safety Yellow among others.

Opps forgot about the ignition issue. Ok I'll see what the paint shop can do still got to build up a pile of parts before the teardown begins and still on the hunt for a starter housing. I have a add in the trading post but no interest so if anyone out there has 1 to sell im your man.

Jethro, what starter housing are you looking for?
