I'm doing a Husky 350 now, and this is the first time I've been all the way into the bottom of one. When I was cleaning the cylinder I smoothed out the sharp edges in the lower transfers and opened them up to where the imprint of the gasket was. That is all that I did to the cylinder. The muffler will be opened a little and the timing advanced, and a popup 353 piston used. Will it really do much if I do the same on the bearing cup? What about the little divider that mates to nothing on the cylinder?

I should add that I may go back in at some point and widen the exhaust and intake.
You can see the shadow of the gasket on the cup here.
Ok, I can't upload a pic. I'll keep trying.

Yes you can grind out the cap the gasket has already marked it out for you
Everything you need to know is on YouTube on Afleetcommands channels relative to this saw
I recommend a base gasket delete. These are a cracking saw in my opinion

I had it together without a gasket but it leaked around the crank. Squish was .033 so I'm taking .010 off of the bearing cup. I've watched some of weimdog's vids but missed the part about just working on the lowers. I'll have to look some more.

Base gasket delete may work but make sure you use a gaaket sealer, such as Permatex. I've received several of these saws in the shop with burned out top ends. The cylinders were usually mounted bare metal to metal with the case and no sealer applied, so the air leak burned them out.

I don't have the best tools for this yet but I tried to just remove sharp edges and obstructions without removing a ton of material.

She's back together. I'm gonna give it a day to let the sealant set up since compression should be pretty high on it with the pop up piston. It looks a lot better than an $83 powerhead should. The bar and chain cost almost as much...

I got the modded muffler back on my 550 today too and that made a nice bump in power, so this one sits in a tall shadow. I suppose I can always go back into this cylinder for what I have into it.

Don't forget to post the compression numbers once the saw breaks in. Wondering what it will be with the Hyway Pop-Up

Does removing cup material affect case volume? I guess it depends your goal for the saw. Or is there more benefit regardless of the volume change?

Fwiw, I didn't change the cup much but removed a little more material below the transfers and woods ported the intake and exhaust. It has plenty of low end grunt - 18" bar buried in red oak type grunt.
