By Sunday afternoon my racks on/in the house will be empty. I’ll have 17 days of burning primarily Norway pine with a little bit of maple and birch mixed in. Will have used roughly 1.5 cords so far. Temps have been unseasonably cold for November, going from -10 low to 40 high. Most of the days saw highs in the 20’s and lows in the teens to single digits. We only had about 3 days where the high went above freezing.

I think I’ve used about 1.25 cords now. Not a LOT more than normal but definitely more.

Just broke into the highly valuable black walnut tonight. Burns great after 2 years of drying. I can see the exponentially valuable smoke coming out the chimney. Smells good[emoji1787]

We're ahead of schedule here too. Been darned cold until this last week. We started the heating season without any supplemental heat, so we have used more than we would in a normal year. Last week we got the backup electric heater from our old furnace plenum moved over to the plenum on the vapor fire 100 we installed last year.

Since then I've noticed we're using a little less wood. Of course it has been a little warmer, but with the backup heat making up for the small dip in the overnight temp in the house, there's less call for a bigger load of wood in the morning. I'm hoping to stay under 5 cords for the year, but if this winter is like last (as people are predicting) I might not do as well as I'd like to. The other part of the equation is that we should have our fairly substantial solar array installed by the end of the year. After that, I may decide to run the electric heat more than we currently do. :)

You keep racks on the house? Roof style? :)

I've been burning at least a month or more, not sure how much. I know i have enough ahead so i don't worry about it too much.

It's been colder than normal here as well, which is interesting since summer lasted forever and 90 degrees was common. We truly had no fall. That gets frustrating.

Been much hotter than usual here. 40s and even 50s in November is very odd.

Normally have well below zero temps by now. Coldest has only been around 20*

You can lay the blame on this>>th-1.jpeg, a large patch of warm water off the West coast.
It's causing a ridge in the upper level jet stream that is pushing the cold air into the midwest & east.

I’m just waiting for deer season to end so I can get back into the woods to retrieve what’s already cut and to cut some more. It’s killing me waiting to hear that saw buzzin again!

Got my first electric bill since the electric boiler had been turned off Saved about 300 bucks going with wood for the month. Similar temps to last year.

I had the pump to my OWB running all summer:angry: I wondered why my usage was up until I cleaned the OWB . We have burned almost nothing so far, 3/4 of a cord in 6 weeks or more. Cleaned out ashes 2 weeks ago and it was almost nothing. Good dry hardwood mix under 16% moisture. I still have 1.5 cord left from last year I'll burn more into winter.

I hear you there. I finally fired up a saw on Saturday afternoon for the first time in probably six weeks. Maybe longer. Been busy with some other more time sensitive projects. Got to buck up some white oak in the 6-12" range and some Ash between 10-22". Used my ported 261 and my stock 2166. It sure was nice to cut again. Had good sharp chains on both saws, and it made bucking a cord a real pleasure. We're traveling for Thanksgiving, but when I get back the first thing I'm gonna do is pick up some fresh ethanol free gas and mix up some 40:1 with Schaeffer 7000 and go to town!

Deer season is my favorite time to cut. Keeps people out of my woods. Sap and water is lower in the trees.
