For what it's worth, my Stihl comparison

I MAY be interested in parting with the 290 stuff. A guy in my FD asked about it (apparently he has tons of random stuff including a power equipment parts arsenal).

I also have a jeep buddy who has a 290 that may be getting the parts in a Jeep part trade.

I guess I'm developing a bit of a packrat problem.

for firewood the 361 w 20" bar and full skip it is a great saw:rockn: for dayin dayout pro use the 361 aint worth an spitted owls butt. it is great homeowner farmsaw, just aint durable enough for everyday pro abuse.

Really, that's not what I hear. Is the spitted owl any relation to the spotted owl?

.... I too have the desire for bigger saws but I think my wife would kill me if I got one. .....

Wifes are different, mine has bought me 4 saws, and a brushcutter.........:rockn: :rockn:

Btw, welcome to AS!!!!:rockn: :rockn:

Btw2, 20" bars are 70cc territory in my book, mostly a balance issue - the 361 is better off with 15-18" ones......

OR, did I stir up a hornet's nest with the comparison?

Good post...doing good work is a great feeling, but doing good work with good tools is even better. Congrats on a great saw.

As to the hornet's nest...don't worry a minute over it. On this board, if someone states their favorite color is black, some other jack@ss* will be all over him within five minutes berating his inability to see things in shades of gray.

Which, of course, is what makes this board so cool...

Welcome to the hood. Watch out for a guy named Just Mow...he's a troublemaker...

* Often times that jack@ss will be me...

Hey Jack - take of your dark glasses - it's shades of ORANGE that causes all the trouble.:D

I guess I don't see it that way...only Husky is orange.

Stihl is more of a catschit yellow... :D :D :D

I also like the Husky orange better than the Stihl orange ("warmer", and seemingly better quality plasic as well), but I don't let it decide what I buy..........:jawdrop: :jawdrop:

A 660 with a 20" bar is probably beyond overkill. A 440 would be more than enough power to run that 20" bar. Really, the 361 would run the 20" no problem...I haven't heard of any durability issues with the 361. I would think that there are many firewood cutters out there with saws that have seen more use than some pro users. If any group of people out there were going to wear out a saw...firewood cutters are surely among them.

Mitch

good info. 361 is an ok saw. i wold not buy one because i tend to buy bigger power band saws. my next Stihl will be a Ms 660 w20" full skip chain:hmm3grin2orange: for firewood the 361 w 20" bar and full skip it is a great saw:rockn: for dayin dayout pro use the 361 aint worth an spitted owls butt. it is great homeowner farmsaw, just aint durable enough for everyday pro abuse.
pros need more power and durability also reliability is very important. just my beer monies worth:popcorn:

A few things that I'm confirming from my lurking times

1) Ford/Chevy -- Stihl/Husky -- small pee pee/big pee pee it's a constant argument about who has the better one.

2) The only thing that concerns me about stirring a hornet's nest here is that everyone is armed with sweet power equipment. On the jeep forums at least most of us own vehicles that either don't run or are geared so low that I can outrun them if someone tries to Mame me with it

3) There doesn't seem to be any evidence about 18 vs 20 inch bars. I actually don't say that sarcastically. If there is evidence I'm interested. I appreciate all of the input and would love to hear more.

So far, this is both entertaining and educational. :blob2:

Well said and written

That is one of the most well written, insightful things I've read on here. I gotta rep you of that.
