i still think the best one was the guy who saw us drive up in the company truck & had the gall to ask, "so, what are you paying these days to cut down some walnut?".

Checked in on a listing for 'huge pile of free firewood, cut, split, seasoned'
Wanted to evaluate to select the proper trailer for the job at hand.
After a short conversation it was revealed that this person thought that
huge pile was about 4x4x4 one pallet, fully loaded. Luckily someone
else was coming over soon to pick it up so I didn't have to laugh my
way out of it.

Or cherry,for that matter.

I have no idea where people get the misconception that few yard trees are worth a kings ransom.Around here a majority of both cherry and walnut end up in the woodstove.Either species is not really that much higher at the local mills than oak.Further more the mills won't give you a red cent for a few yards trees.

Guy I work for bid a job, they asked how much it would be if he kept the logs. "About $2000 more", didn't go over too well.

I've had great luck keeping in touch with a local arborist, if he
has a stack of hardwoods to remove or some mixed, I'd
drop my 30' GN trailer off and he'd just stack the wood on it
in tractor liftable lengths. That works out well but it can be
few and far between.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of this concept. Stupid me. I have a half dead, heavy-leaning willow that may hit the road if dropped as is. I think I may have to post an ad just like these!!

I hate taking wood. I'll tell the customers to put it by the road with a "free" sign. Anyway 99.9% of the people on craigslist are the biggest penny pinchers & scammers out there.

I saw one, the lady said she'll cook you a dinner for every room you paint in her house!!

If you look for work in craigslist then you need to find a different job. ;)

Free range organically grown wood! sell it by the cubic foot!

I like this one, 4 or 5 rotten sticks for free if you take away a pile of corroded car batteries :

Or this one, bring your bucket truck over for some free wood. I bet it's a huge silver maple:

Oh if you don't want the wood... "Just name what you need and we can work something out." Wonder if they mean a hand job or something.

Well at least on the second one they will provide a chainsaw. I am sure it would probably be a nice, new Stihl or Husky with several sharp chains and unlimited gas and bar and chain oil to boot. It would never be a 14 inch Craftsman with dull chains and bent bar with a fouled spark plug:givebeer:

I think you should e-mail them and tell them you don't want the wood, but you 'need' $1,000 to cut down their tree, $995 if you use their chainsaw.
