All my saws are the old metal ones, Homelite, Remington, Poulan and McCulloch with a few oddballs mixed in.
I love using the old saws just for the pure torque and big chains.
No need to post pictures of my corral you've all seen them, BUT if you really want me to I will, like a proud parent showing off his baby[emoji57].

What's "elder"? Pre-limter caps? All metal? No AV? No chain brake?
Those features are all too new except the all metal. They need to have thumb pump lever bar oilers, points ignitions, be hard starting, have choke levers, no chain brake, run on 16:1 gas:eek:il, knock your teeth fillings out from the vibration, be all metal and weigh a ton, prefer to run on leaded gas, and smoke like a chimney.

I started out with one of these... (my dad's saw)

Then my brother and I got a pair of these...

And then we got one of these...

Way later my ex gave me one of these...

And later we got one of these...

...and then CAD took over from there.

Thanks Al
That SXL 925 is setting quiet now. I had only used it to cut a few cookies.
The last time I cut wood I took it with me and run about 3/4 of a tank through it and it cut off.
The duck bill vent was bad and it vapor locked so bad the gas in the tank boiled.
The piston is scored now. I don't know about the cylinder yet. Three other saws on the bench before it.
If you are going to run old saws, you gotta know how to fix them.

First one I've ever seen.

These guys were not as bad vibration wise even though they did not have any AV mounts

Some of the older, non AV saws didn't vibrate nearly as bad as others.....

This is a pic of a 601 Jonsereds ....it's the ancestor of the legendary 621.....which I find kinda funny .....the 601 is pleasent to run.....quiet...not bothersome vibraton.....good balance etc. That's what I find funny........they took a very comfortable non AV saw and used all they could from that and designed and totally new unit that was state of the art for the time......and not to shabby today.

Note the recoil in the last pic.......this is an awesome rig.....to tension the cord you simple take out the two bolts from the other cover and rotate the outer housing clockwise a half turn or whole turn or what ever as needed to load the recoil spring.

I just found a perfect bar for mine and got 3 new chains and she's a ripper.

Glad I'm not the only one who insists his saws stay decent and wear pants on the way to work. All my saws are old but that's because I'm cheap more than any real preference. That said I got a soft spot for older tools, and my first saw I ever used or owned was my 266se I found in the trash, absolutely beat to hell. Cleaned the carb and put it back together and it fired right up, making the first time I'd ever taken a small engine apart and put it back together and had it work better instead of worse than when I started. Now I'm hooked and will snatch anything from that family up if the price is right, and now I have an 041av farmboss that's next on the rebuild list.
When someone pointed out out was a weird saw, I couldn't just sell it for toy money! I'll run any weird dinosaur, as long as it's got a chain brake
