I bought a new MS250 today my first Stihl

I bought a new Stihl MS250 today to replace my Echo CS370. I really liked the little Echo, but I have always wanted to try a Stihl so I'll give this one a workout this weekend and let you all know what I think. I also looked at the MS260,270,280, but honestly I liked the balance of the MS250 better. My Echo was only 37cc this new Stihl is about 50cc and weighs the same as my Echo did. The Stihl should be about 1.5HP stronger than the Echo. Same weight more power sounded good to me.

Congrats on the new Stihl. What was it about the balance that you liked better the the 260 ? There's only .5 lb. difference between the two saws, and you get 5.2 cc's more displacement on the 260.

Your new saw is 45cc, still a good saw though. What size bar are you running?

I use an 025 for smaller stuff w/16" bar & RS chain. Rugged, easy handling saw.

Reach, I know you weren't asking me but I feel the handle spacing/angles are more comfortable and the 025 seems more compact and manueverable. It's not really the weight.

The 025 is a nice saw. It will last a long time with proper maintaince and care.

I am not a fan of the plastic saws, but my brother loves his 250.

Just a heads up.
There does seem to be a lot of melting issues around the clutch area posted on the 025-250. So check into that in a search.

Congrats, it's a great little saw! And you noticed why as well, it has good power for its weight!

Although the 260/026 is a technically better saw, and I have the bulkier MS250C-BE, I still prefer to use my 250 over my 026... It's just... nicer or something. Or maybe it's just that my 250 works well and the 026 needs to be serviced...

Lakeside could probably answer this better than me, but the MS250 family of saws is no more susceptable to melting around the clutch than the MS290 family. Regardless, the only time this will happen is if you hold the throttle for a extended period of time with the chainbrake on. Under normal operation this will not happen.

I love my 250. Starts right up, never gets heavy. I can't see much wrong with it. There are bigger better saws I know, but it's great for what it is. I do think it has a different feel from the 260. A 260 would be a little faster I suppose but I don't care.:censored::greenchainsaw:

Forgot to add; I suspect it will not happen if the chain is sharp, and the bar of reasonable length.
