That is their "Superformance" ammo that is loaded with progressive powders that are supposed to be 100-200 FPS higher than normal factory loads.

They list the 200 gr at 3030 FPS, but don't tell you how to duplicate their load!

My old (3rd edition) Hornady manual shows IMR 4831 producing 3,000 FPS in a 338 Win Mag, but all the other powders are 2,900.

I don't think anyone currently loads the 338-06, but no matter, most of my guns have never seen a factory loaded round.

I have a good supply of 06 brass (both new and once fired that I collected at the range) and recently found a brick of large rifle primers, so I'm good for a while.
Yes it's the superfirmance factory load. I still have a few boxes from when I bought the gun before I started to reload for it. As far as a factory load I get good very good accuracy from it.
I tried to go through them first, would have only taken a month instead of 4+ months, but they DO NOT CHAMBER 338-06!!!

They make barrels for the Ruger American Rifle, and that barrel nut is through them, but I almost could not believe they don't chamber in 338-06! STUPID!

338-06 is what I wanted, and the more I know about it the more confident I am that I made the right choice. I wanted something like my 348 Winchester with a scope (my eyes are older, and they have stupid 3 pt a side restrictions up at my property for the last few years). That makes it exceedingly difficult to efficiently hunt with open sights.

If they still made the Marlin lever gun in 338 Marlin I'm sure I would have been very happy with that, but I'll just have to settle on a bolt gun. It will be like the 348 on Steroids!

It will wear a Vortex 3 X 9 X 50 Crossfire II scope ... should be nice and bright. I currently have 3 Ruger American Rifles (2 in 30-06, one will be converted). They are light, rugged, point well and really tame the recoil, so I figured they would be perfect for this project. I've already modified 2 magazines to function with the 338-06.
I have several Vortex Crossfire scopes. Most of them 3-9 power, pretty decent scope for the money. About the same as a nikon buck master imo.
Nice combo, and good shooting! I have the Browning repro of the Model 71, and original 95's in 30 Army (30-40 Krag) and 30-03.
I was at the SHOT Show last week, and it sounds like reloading component availability isn't going to improve much this year :(
There has been a slightly better selection dribbling into the local gun shop recently, but no bricks of primers and tour still limited to 2 cards of any type of primers. Powder selection still sucks.

I see I missed another 17 pages since my last visit. You boys have been busy.

I have been thinking about maybe reducing my fleet a bit. I have a couple of real nice saws that I haven't even ran in 2 years and another that hasn't been used in longer than that.

When a guy has two ported 346's and cuts most wood under 20" it is not really often that I need more and if I do I have ported 371 and 394.

Standby.

Is that really a left hand gun or is the image flipped?

When I was a kid I wanted a T-2 with an aperture sight... As a kid I never had the money until they stopped making them... I did however get a Ruger 10/22 Deluxe Sporter for $44 new.

Yes, it's really a LH T-bolt...

How long would it take to run it over to my place 😬.
I had my beast of burden out today for a nice session, got this little stump pulled out, and a lot of other smaller trees dropped and the stumps pulled or pushed them over and diced them up. Had a nice bonfire too, sorry no pics, but here's an emoji :blob2: lol.

The stump was right in the deep part of my pond.

You might want to check out a tree spade. It is dandy on a small tractor.

Nice! The guns from 40-50+ years ago are in a whole other class than the stuff today... I've been so disillusioned with the newer stuff I haven't bought much of anything new in years and when I did it was things like this .410.

Was made in the early 1890s it ,uses light loads that aren’t easy to get now . 20180923_135250.jpg20180923_135310.jpg20180923_140400.jpg20180923_135301.jpg20180923_140408.jpg

A couple of my shotguns, both are newer...I think the Browning is mid-late 90's and Beretta auto is 2004 IIRC. Back in highschool and college, I used to competitively shoot trap(mostly,) but also skeet and sporting clays. The Browning O/U was an awesome trap and sporting clays tool, but with 32" barrels, it was a bit slow for skeet.

Both are well used and not the prettiest looking guns out there. The Beretta has a particularly high number of rounds through it, the pictures probably make it look nicer than it is.
