Boiling some maple sap tonight. Got about 25 gallons yesterday and today. Just started flowing yesterday. Using my redneck divided pan and sap preheater for the first time. View attachment 1059181
What I wouldn't give to have the timber fir making syrup that you guys have!

That sounds very civilized and easy. I like things to be difficult!:surprised3:

I have ceramic insulation panels in the barrel. That make all the difference. It keeps boiling(not a hard boil but boiling) with a bed of coals. I've used 6 armfuls of wood so far. I used to have the barrel glowing to get a decent boil and as soon as the flames died I would loose the boil.
I’ve repurposed my beer brewing equipment to maple syrup 3 high btu burners . This is with my old evaporator pan . I’m really liking the one I bought this year so much better 20200303_152240.jpgD3298530-2B56-4880-9CAF-266F4AC0839D.jpeg

Since you guys are posting cast-iron pics, here’s a few from this weekend.

Tonight’s dinner was roasted brussels sprouts and smoked pork loin. The pork was a gift from a friend and I sliced it and seared it in garlic infused olive oil. It was absolutely delicious-sort of like bacon, but leaner.

Next up, we have about 10 pounds worth of cabbage, kielbasa, onions, and bacon. This is in a big size 14, and will be several days of meal prep.

Installed a couple of canless LED lights over the "machining" area of my shop. They have a nice soft light and fill a void in between my existing shop lights. Now I just need to wire up a work light for the mill and I'll be set.

those lil drill/mills are great! i have spent hundreds of hours using one to make specialty parts. their utility and accuracy goes way up with HD clamps and machining table vises... i have on i bolt to x-y bed i can barely lift... no end mill chatter at all! rigidity is the key! 👍

machining center line looks ideal! ~

Nice clean shop!
usually they just clean them up for a pix! LOL... when i was making chips, i had a vac handy... and vac'd all the metal shavings off the work piece, etc. sloppier shops just hit the area with compressed air ~

cut, vac
cut, cac

bit of a pita, but area stayed very clean!

@Lightning Performance

I tried to read your other thread, but then it was locked and then much of it was deleted. I can’t say that I fully understand what’s going on, but you certainly seem to be trying to make things transparent for everyone.

I had significant trouble with Randy and his henchmen myself back when I was a moderator of this site. When he tried to lead his great exodus out of here, he did his best to discredit the moderators and site owners while acting like he was the victim of some great conspiracy; when in reality he was the one spinning the scheme to mislead people. He’s a narcissist and manipulator of the first order. For anyone who doesn’t believe me… Watch the way he deals with people over at his place and how so many people come and go… One minute they are his best friend, “bro”, “brother”, “cuz”, etc, and the next minute they are on the outs, never to be heard from again. Everything is fine and dandy until someone disagrees with him or he feels threatened by them. No, I’m not going to say that he doesn’t know his stuff about saws, runs a bad business, or won’t help all the fellow in need, because he certainly does those things well. But people need to understand that he’s not this happy go lucky good old boy that he tries to portray.

Some people make a life out of acting like that….manipulating and bullying people into getting their way. I have no interest in that BS. To each their own.

I wish you the best in figuring out your situation, and I know there’s a lot of people who feel the same as I do so I wouldn’t worry too much about Randy slamming you… people who believe him would never do business with you anyway because they’re buffaloed by his line of BS.

Sounds like it worked out well for you. It's always nice when a plan comes together! Can't wait to hear how it shoots. I think I will start watching for a Savage or Ruger American in .308, .243, or 7mm-08 for the right price and rebarrel it.

I've always been a fan of heavy for caliber bullets. The first two deer I shot with my .308 were with 150 grain Barnes X Bullets. Both were heart/lung shots. They both ran over 50 yards which is not uncommon. My problem with them was the teensy entrance and exit wounds. Neither deer left much of a blood trail. It would've been a much more difficult tracking job had there not been snow on the ground. I decided to switch to 180 grain Sierra Gamekings at about 2400 fps and haven't looked back. I have only recovered one bullet from a doe I shot in the brisket. It was a beautiful mushroom. All the others have exited with 1-2" exit wounds and have bled like crazy. I think a .338 Federal with a 200 would be a little better.

Good luck with tax season. My wife is a CPA. She did the public thing for about 5 years. I'm very familiar with the tax season life. Glad she went into working as a controller.

That's what I was thinking, but, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Heading downstairs to do some chain swapping and sharpening, then going out to dice those up and move the rounds, then get a few more down. The deer have been tearing up the branches down there, I barely leave and they come running lol.
had a rare sighting middle last week. got up in am and looked out door... there mid field in pasture just E of my home place were 2 does ginerly walking across the pasture stopping here n there for a bite to eat.... :sweet:
