I did go for a brief bike ride yesterday ... my first of the year. Just slow and easy, but the Madone 7 sure is easier to get moving than my 29er!

(No, I did not pick the colors, it was what was available that year!) It is a nice bike!

Went Turkey hunting with MechanicMatt and his older daughter this morning. We were "in the thick" on the edge of a huge field (about 400 X 600 yds).

Had a Tom about 260 yds away, but could not get it to come in. When it drifted into the thick, we walked around the field the long way hoping to come across it.

It flushed from the ground almost were we saw it go in, I could not get a shot as Matt was between me and the bird, but Matt hit it hard with a 3" Turkey load and knocked it down (it was only about 20 yds away). The Turkey went down right on the edge of a Stream with a very steep bank loaded with vegetation.

We searched and searched but could not find it. I rested my gun against a tree to help Matt with the search, as I was afraid me and the gun would end up in the stream, and I scaled down holding onto a vine. Just then, Matt's daughter flushed the bird, it went right over my head, but I had no gun!

I guess those stupid #5s Matt was using just aren't enough! I was loaded with High Bass #2s (2 3/4").

The concussion of Matt's shot knocked it down, but it flew off like it was not harmed at all! I think next time he will be loaded with #2s! Turkeys are tough!

#2s are illegal in WI. #4s are the biggest shot you can use. I think it's a safety issue, you're much less likely to die if you're hit with #4s than 2s. I personally use a .410 with #9 TSS. I smoked this guy at 30 yards last year.20220514_062247.jpgEdit: I obviously wouldn't try a body shot with that combination.

My Mustang is a 3V ... no problems.
Ugg, so is my younger brothers mustang and my dad's f250. At least I knew what I was in for after helping my brother get them.out of the stang. Mind you this was after he broke every one of them off. Dad's truck went smoother, but I'm convinced he needs to sell it before the plugs need changed again. If anything else that gutless 5.4l has made him miss having a diesel.

My old man had a f150 with the 5.4. The spark plugs were easy to do, only because the heads were off of it for weepy head gaskets lol. He had them machined and within a couple years, they started leaking again. At that point, he didn't care anymore and got them to seal again with that horrible stop leak crap. When that finally gave up the ghost, he offloaded the truck for cheap and happily went back to driving his ultra-reliable f250 with the 460.

He had a bunch of other issues with that f150 as well, it must have been built on a Friday. He did stop talking crap about my Dodge's build quality by the time he was done with his ownership experience.

There were a lot of updates in the early years of the mod motors... can't remember when or for what reason, there was some sort of update to the heads around 99. Power got bumped up a bit and they seemed to be more reliable

Well, it was time to get this big oak out,

First thing, was to get that tree in front of it out of the way, and to move all the logs laying on the ground in front of it moved. So, I cut down/skidded the tree out of the way and took two more loads out with the pallet forks/grapple and moved them to the growing pile,

Then I hooked the skidding winch to the big oak and made sure it would fall the direction I wanted,

There's a LOT of good firewood in that big oak!

I'll get it blocked up another day!

No real scrounge today. Did get nearly done bucking up those 3 trailer loads of logs tho. My oldest son is supposed to take some more of it and I'm hoping he takes the rest. ! I need to get on to some other things right now and we have tons of wood anyway. His preferred method is to not get ahead on wood like he should and then come get what I have split stacked and covered. Let's just say I'm strongly discouraging that!

The Mustang did not get a V-8 with 3V heads and VCT until 2005. My 2000 GT had 2V and no VCT. Performance was anemic by comparison.

5010?

Here are mine...the Spesh is my xc racer:

I put most of my miles in on this:

So nice that the new road bikes now have disc brakes. They were generally NA on the high-end road bikes when I got mine.

Chris Horner won the Tour De Spain on a Modone 7, thus becoming the oldest guy to ever win a grand tour.
