When the ash beetles first came around the game commission and dcnr cut some huge swaths of ash down. Guess the thought was the beetles wouldn't be able to get from tree to tree or some such nonsense. The did it again in different areas for the lantern Flys. Good trees just left to rot and no one was allowed to cut them for fire wood. I would have rather seen them log then just cut and let the timber lay. Stupid people in charge.
Stupid state for ya. They want anyone (business) that moves around the lantern fly quarantine ares to have a permit. Like that's gonna work.
Yeah, and some sort of log saying you checked under your vehicle before you left the quarantine zone... right. They are here to stay and there isn't much you're going to do about it.
So the trees laying on the ground somehow affected the ash borer ?? Or not, Other than the standing trees .?. I don't get it. The part of no-one is allowed to touch them or use them for fuel wood I get, cause it's the state.. Bunch of ***holes making the decisions. The borer seemed to have no trouble traveling anywhere without the gooberments assistance
I find that any flammable liquid in the hole cures the problem quickly. Leaving a running mower over the nest hole splatters them in minutes.
They showed a video drone going up to a huge nest and all of the Hornets committed hari kari in short order
The powers that be are equally foolish up here with waterborne invasives… you will have some lakes where you can’t even bring a boat to prevent the spread. However, they are surrounded by water’s that are already infected. They totally overlooked the fact that animals and birds can and will transport that stuff.
when we was kids, we lived up in Pullman, WA... out on the old road to Moscow. dirt and no shortage of farms along the way. every time we saw an old farm impl with seat like that... had to climb upon it and sit...

Don't know how I missed this back in June, but before I retired I was a Licensed and Insured MD Tree Expert. That means I took the MD Tree Expert Exam, and passed. Also took the ISA exam, and passed. That makes me a real live Arborist, with a capitol A.There are some actual arborists on this site.just not on this page. I'd bet some of them would be happy to help with some business advice.
It's good to know where your competitors are pricewise as well.
There was another MD Tree Expert that hung out here. I can't remember his name. He lived just a few miles from me. Always hoped we could meet for lunch one day. Last time I spoke with him he was getting out of the tree business. Now I have to go back through ten years of messages to find his name.

Don't worry about me, I'm not planning on punching out. I've got too many fish to catch. I just miss the old guys that have gone on, for what ever reason. I retired from UPS. The tractor trailer drivers bid their vacations twice a year. So a guy would bid to a different shift and a year or so would go by before you missed him. Then you ask someone, and they say, oh, he died a while back. On line forums are like that. Like I say, if you get bummed out, just go fishing, works for me.Ya got many good years ahead
