I've been on the look out for a 20ga 870 rifled slug barrel, seen them go for $250+ used already. I'd like to think a 12ga version would be a bit cheaper being they were much more popular.

As for the shotgun, I wheel and deal a bit, last winter I grabbed two 870’s from an estate at 150 a piece
As thinking I’d get 250 each (ended up giving one to my nephew and one to a cousins son) for the rifles barrel, I’d think $250-300 is fair deal for a used one

Yes, technique makes a big difference. I was an early adopter of using a winch on an Alaskan Mill. This after discovering a guy about 8-9 years ago who was doing it. I added a boat trailer winch with paracord to my Granberg Mill. I get very smooth cuts and don't wear myself out pushing the saw through the log... It's in my avatar.

Maybe so. I try to mill at a 10-15 degree angle and try not to push the saw too hard or get the RPM's too high. And no seesawing back and fourth!

Once you use a winch you'll never go back to pushing.
Brother and I used to camp with my Sister and BIL. She would always complain about always getting the spot around the fire where the smoke was blowing. She would always putz around the camp and be the last one to sit down so she got the 'smoke' spot.
I'd rather just push the bandsaw carriage myself and skip the winch lol.
Hey, any thoughts on a splitter that doesn't seem to be hitting the second stage. Starts right up and runs perfectly, when it huts the wood it does just fine until it gets under a heavy load, then it stalls. Now and then it will also stall when retracting the cylinder right when the cylinder gets all the way back but before the valve releases.
I noticed this particular unit has a screw on the pump I've never noticed, wouldn't doubt they all have it though. It's a 22ton huskee.
Is your motor running at WOT when splitting? Is your pump a two stage pump? It sounds like your pressure release valve is set too high or is not working as in being stuck in the closed position. The return cycle should be adjustable by the set screw behind the valve.
Most likely someone was playing with the cross over valve or its stuck in high flow mode. Some of them can be set. Usually it's set between 700 and 900 psi. There should be some sort of removable cap/plug on the side of the pump valve should be under it, if it's adjustable there will be a set screw/ jam nut configuration. If you toss a pressure gauge on the main line you'll be able to tell pretty quickly if it's working or not. I wouldn't rule out an engine issue though. They are pretty robust and simple. Never hurts to check.
Lots of these "box store" splitter have gone to non adjustable return detents and non adjustable reliefs. It's a cost thing I guess. But me in the arse last summer, had a leakage issue with the valve I had on my splitter and tossed a used one on. Shortly afterwards I had retraction issues where it would kick out early. Took the rear cover off and it's just a spring with no easy way to adjust it. Stupid design. Would have taken full disassembly and finding shims to get it to work right. Bought a new adjustable valve and moved on with life. Last time I use a valve with that style detent.

Rifled slug barrels for the 870 have been very hard to find. I see some complete guns with them, but no one seems to have just the barrel for sale.
I have an 870 and my daughter's household has 2 in 12 ga and one in 20 ga.
Someone posted the following on Nextdoor. Their profile indicates they are from NYC and have an upstate home.
"We are having (after last year’s invasion) another invasion of gypsy moths around our house. Is anyone else having this issue and can offer any solutions? Many of our scrubs were damaged last year and here we go again. I really don’t like the idea of having our property hit w chemical treatments if possible."
My response was:
"Having lots of white footed mice around helps to some degree... they eat the spongy moth larvae and pupae."
I'm now sitting back waiting for heads to explode.
