I came across one once. A snapping turtle was laying eggs in the middle of the single track path on an old rail right of way. I wasn't about to mess with that turtle at the time! Later, with the intention of moving the eggs, I couldn't find the spot again. I doubt they survived given the fact that people were riding bicycles and walking on that path...There were monster snappers in the drainage ditch and wet lands along the corridor and I'd sometimes see them walking down the path. Today... not a chance. Shortly there is going to be a grand opening for the recently completed paved rail trail project on that corridor. Me personally... I miss the old trail. I used to see all kinds of wildlife there... three varieties each of turtles and snakes, woodcock, green heron, fox, coyote, bear, whitetails, various varieties of ducks, humming birds, song birds, squirrels, rabbits, beaver, muskrat... It had excellent wildlife habitat because there were electric transmission and distribution lines there and the maintenance disruptions created a lot of grasses and high stem count brush which when combined with the wet lands and nearby forested lands was a great place for critters to live.
That's awesome. I grew up right next to about a 20 acre marsh here on the coast of NC right next to the Pamlico river. Tons of snapping turtles in there! Never caught any laying eggs, but I did walk out the front door one morning to find about a 40lb snapper sitting in the shade by the corner of the concrete steps. That was the one where I learned you probably shouldn't pick them up by the tail, as I heard a "pop" when I did. He seemed alright though, maybe it was like a chiropractor visit for him. But anyway, I escorted him back over to his marsh. My dad used to trap and sell them back in the 70's when there was a market for that sort of thing. He caught about everything there was to catch in that river commercially. Turtles, blue crabs, eels, speckled trout, flounder, mullet etc.

Honda has discontinued their lawn mowers and snow blowers... and apparently the small engines that went with them. Meeting the growing emissions standards in the face of the state mandates is economically problematic on such inexpensive engines. It also isn't worth the effort when the sale of gas powered engines will no longer be allowed in big markets like CA.

The Honda on my Ferris has a pressurized, sump based, oiling system and a filter. I personally haven't had experience with dry sump systems... only splash and pressurized sump systems. Dry sump would make sense for use on hilly terrain. A friend of mine gets 2-3 years tops out of splash engines due to the hills on his property. Property that does not lend itself to anything bigger than a 30" walk behind or push mower.
here's their dry sump set up.

As many issues with the hydrostatic we had with that last ferris, it kicked but in steep hills. Very stable machine. Engine never missed a tick.
I'm looking for a running unit or a Kohler 181 that runs. Also had some questions on implements fitting certain models, or not.
Oh, thats a hard one for sure. 6 or 8 hp I think. I'll ask him.

8 hp cast iron Kohler. Indestructible until the bushog met a large rope that was partially buried in the ground. The hard sudden stop at high throttle was too much for it.

It's a bummer that fur prices aren't high enough to keep trappers interested. There's a clear correlation between ground nesting animal populations and the population of nest robbers.

I'm going to start trapping coons and opossum on our property to give the turkeys a little leg up.
A lot like the overpopulation of mountain lions in California after prop 17, or whichever # it was. Hunting had kept them in check for decades and all of a sudden they became a huge problem. Stupidity on steroids…

Why would a 302 V8 run cooler than a 300 I6 in this installation? Wasn't the problem the lack of air flow to the rad in these things?? Dual electric fan time?? Gotta wonder if the brakes for the original 240 I6 may not adequate for the 302...?? Interesting none the less!

Back in the 80's my one buddy put a built 289 in a early 60's Econoline van. It was a bit more difficult because his truck didn't have the side doors on it. Don't recall him ever having over heating or stopping issues..

As far as I know the 300-6 and 302 had the same radiators. Shouldn't overheat from that aspect, or an airflow aspect. You could get either engine in virtually every vehicles ford produced.

I wonder how many people/pets will have to die before they allow hunters to do their job again?https://www.themeateater.com/conser...nia-brothers&utm_id=1165330&sfmc_id=500243138
