It always gets confusing when ATDC or BBDC, and such aren't specifically mentioned.

I think the easiest way to discuss port timing is just to deal with open duration, like 165* duration for intake, 120* duration for transfers and 170* duration for exhaust. All the other values can easily be calculated from duration times if someone is interested in port opening ATDC or ABDC.

Ive got and answer for your Sig,,,,,,,"I can't help wondering who caused all the heat that ended the last ice age 20K years ago."

As some of you know Thall sent me a 262xp bound for the Dumpster.
So I would like to share with you what I have done to get it running.

Grrrrrrrr. I was trying to post some pics of what it looked like when tom had it.
Hay Ultra are you out there ?

Manual how is your rebuilt 262 running. I've got a good understanding now, thanks to you, of port timing and the use of the degree wheel.
Did you change the port timing figures to what Four Paw's spoke of ?
Thanks
J.Walker

Better yet I also milled the base of the cylinder to accept the gasket plus did some more in-depth work on the transfers.

Manual, how can compression be increased by machining the piston top at an angle... would the combustion chamber volume not increase that way ? just curious.
thanks

This is how I see it,
you do your squish test on the out sides of the piston,
your combustion chamber is con-caved, you just made your piston convexed.
My squish was .013 flat topped.
My squish is .018 @ 2* angle, So the piston center is .030" higher or into the combustion chamber then using the flat top.
remember 1* = .017" 2* = .035"

Ummmmm, please correct me if I am wrong. Unless you were to shave off 0.030" on the cylinder base, or use a new connecting rod that's 0.030" longer, doesn't doming the top of the piston that way just leave the piston's center at the same distance into the cylinder, and like Belgian said, only increases displacement volume? Or is that why you choose to omit the base gasket, to make up that difference? I'm guessing that opening the intake porting is what's increasing the compression, and the increased volume is making the added horses.

Just some thoughts on this older resurected thread.

Like when your F-16 was shot down - I hope I don't have to call in the M109G3N battery again - the guys are kinda old and tired, it is 15 years since we had an exercise - except when you tried to invade us with those fake saws......:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:
