Thalls a smart guy, He just don't want to mess rebuilding a Husky.
If he did he might have to throw out all those Stihls of his to make room for Huskys.
I did not know a 262 had that much max torque. looks like I got a good runner.

Your right , fact is I got no interest in those Swedish saws at all, I don't want to mess with them. Thats not knocking them, just saying how I am about them. If you have no interest in something sell it or give it to someone that does I always say. I do admit I had been pondering quite alot on a new 372 though. I came within a minute of ordering one from Baileys a few weeks ago but having the connections I have I'm gonna hold out for a new ----- from Stihl which will be out sometime probly next year.

So Manual since ya went and modded that ole saw I expect to see it in action ya hears. I wanna see it walk the dog and smack the cat.

Ok Now you are opening to ports, remember wider is better to get more torque (Or grunt power), but watch out.

A little trick Dean at Wa????on Hot Saws does is put the cylinder back on, turn the fly wheel till the piston closes the port, take a pencil and trace out the port onto the piston.
this will tell you how wide you can safely go.
you don't want to go any closer then .020" to side of piston skirt. (Per Dennis Calhoon) or you could chance a Free port situation. I don't recommend getting that close, until you have a few mod jobs under your belt.
What I do to transfer my measurements to the cylinder is, Use a 6" rule and just mark a straight line up the cylinder. then grind out my radius on each side.

Good Job

Good job Manual, and good on ya Tom for spreading the good cheer around.

Like I told a guy today at work: "One man's junk is another man's treasure." I love giving junk away to someone who'll find it useful - and I love getting junk that I can use.

Exactly, my thoughts exactly. If I'm not gonna fool with it give it to someone that will. Manual has done a great job on that saw, cool beans to him..

Most likely your holding out for new Erin LaVoie doll from Stihl.:hmm3grin2orange:

I don't have anything to film it with except this camera. Never tried it.

Ya need to getcha on of those little ditigal jobs with movie mode. They work pretty good. I got a little el cheapo Sony and it makes fairly decent vids.

Thanks XJWoody
Now I have some 254xpg's in a box that could lend a hand in this rebuild.

This 262 had a missing cover on the trigger handle when Tom gave it to me so I thought I would make a 262XPG out of this 262xp. for those who don't know what the "G" stands for, It's heated grips.
Check out this Job. All the wires have heat shrink on them. Soldered the terminals too.

Whoops, Forgot to say, After you are done with your cylinder and you are not going to use a gasket. (No I did not) use Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker.

Now for the muffler mod.
I forgot to take a before pic.
Timber Wolf did a great thread on "how big is too big" for muffler modding.
With that and 046's spaghetti method you wont have to guess what size to open your muffler up to. Laugh all you want, it works.

This muffler was easy to mod, the front of it opens up when you take it off the saw.
The exit hole was too small so I opened it up. then I cut off the teeth looking part on the outside exhaust port, then extended it. I can still use the spark arrester.
