Looking into a PNW trip... ideas??

the gf and i are thinking of taking a trip this summer to WA (Ferndale is where we would be staying-she is there now)

what are some places of interest?
Wood's in a garantee..and prolly Madsens.

Anybody up for having a few ??

Anybody know any got to go places?

i'd love to check out some logging while i was there..

just trying to get some ideas and input..

to be honest the main point of the trip will be looking into moving out there...it will be hard for me to not just stay while im visiting!!

Make sure to check out Wanye Sutton's chainsaw musuem, I would call it a must see for any chainsaw nut out that way. He is in southern Washington state I believe.

The shows are earlier. Logging.. back in the mountains/foothills... all up and down the state.

Hook up with a couple of the local tree services (I can help out around Seattle) for a day or two. You'll see some big trees come down

Since Madsens is on your list, head out to ####'s Brewery in Centrailia. OK, this thing won't print the nickname for Richard and in Tom, #### and Harry.
D(r)icks Porter is excellent. Then, you'll want to see the volcanos if you can.
They'll be accessible in July. You'll have to brave the detour of the touristii to go to St. Helens from the North but you'll survive. You may be driving through a skyline thinning on your way there. However, those guys are very unpredictable so I couldn't promise anything and we don't know what the market will dictate. If another sale with the really good crew is going, I could take you there. They are the ones who have tried to kill me the most. See the Columbia gorge. Hmmm, I feel like a traitor to my Eastern Warshington upbringing. There's Dry Falls and Grand Coulee Dam. Depends if you want desert or rainforest. The ocean is always accessible.

If you head to the gorge there's an IKEA across the bridge by the Portland Airport. Oregon has no sales tax. Midwestians like to go to Joes
(formerly known as GI Joes) which is a sporting goods/auto supply chain. The Wisconsinites who have been out here like that store. Cherries are ripe in July too. Yummmm. Huckleberries start in August but if I took you to my secret patch I'd have to blindfold you or kill you. That's all I can think of. Bring raingear.:greenchainsaw:

Just got back from the Deming Log Show Grounds a few minutes ago. We live 5 miles away and that is where grade school baseball practice and games are held.

June 9th and 10th this year. 20 Minutes from Ferndale where I went today to buy my MS361. Doc told me I was at risk for cancer and had high blood pressure so I figure I am cured now.

I have a friend that volunteers at the hot dog stand and might be able to hook you up with one. As for logging, I am just a home owner cutting up trees after 100 mph winds in November who is ready for the next storm.

There is some selective logging in out area but not like it used to be.

You should check out a drive over the North Cascades Highway, state highway #20, through Sedro Woolley where Woods Logging Store is. Further out there are some cool places and even old growth PNW trees you only see in pictures. Like 10 foot trunks and 300 foot tall trees if you hike the right trails. Best camping in the NW also.

Vancouver island, Victoria, and Vancouver are good spots to see. Watch the log barges on the Frazer River. Spend a day or two watching Andy do his magic on saws.

I recommend that you stop by Rainier National Park and if possible, Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. You'll see some pretty nice timber and the scenery is awesome. Timberline Lodge at Mt.Hood (east of Portland, Oregon) is nice too. Lots of pretty big timber to look at, on both sides of the Columbia River.

Head over to the coast in Northwest Oregon and you'll see some world class blowdown from this last winter's storm.

Since you said PNW,fyi,THE BEST MICROBREW BEER/Camping are not in Washington,but in Oregon,trust me I know these things.If you really want to see some country and a totally different life style than figure out a way to see coastal BC.Starting with the San Juan Islands north to 'Rupert.Anybody can drive an Interstate,but how many have seen a pod of killer whales hangin in the eddies in Active Pass,or the white Kirmodi bears of Prince Edwards Island sharing the same salmon stream as you.Thousands of porpoise(or maybe dolphins,never could keep em straight),breaching in Fitzhue Sound.If the ole lady wants to stay around puget sound and you want to get away from the I-5 corridore,then youve got to hoist a cold one at the Old Town Tavern in Port Townsend,one of the last wood boat ports on the west coast and gateway to the Peninsula(great hotsprings too at Elwah east of P.A,least used to be.)

I drove out to Squamish B.C. a few years ago, and it has the most awesome ROCK CLIMBING! 40 miles or 60 km north of Vancouver

Also, just outside of Mt. Rainier park grounds is a wacky little place where the guy makes the COOLEST sculptures out of various metal objects. He is extremely good at this. Dinosaurs, big birds etc. etc. I'm sure one of the locals can tel you exactly where. I think it is on the way out of the west side of the park, but it was cloudy that day,and so I don't recall for sure.
I hope to get back out that way someday, now that I know some awesome people with chainsaws!!

Its between Elbe and Ashford. Elbe has a Gas station/ convienience store/ Stihl dealer ya mite be able to find a nice used 056 there seen a couple its a kick but pretty long drive south. From Ferndale you should be able to get a rounded view of the area in North cascades NP. Volcano rivers trees mountain and salt water areas without to much travel time, lots a loggin up there also.
