I picked up a non-running 026 for $35 bucks. The plug wire was completely cut off by the plug. I usually get these saws and do a complete teardown, clean the up really well and rebuild and resell.

I tore this one down assuming it had a scored cylinder because of a mark on the piston.

The cylinder is in pretty good shape, with no grooves. Piston has a spot missing, which I guess transfered to the cylinder.

Rings measure within 1 or 2 thousandth of each other on all sides, piston measures good too.

Should I reuse this piston and rings?

Measure your ring end gap and determine the piston wear by finding the space between the piston skirt and cylinder. The piston looks worn but maybe not totally worn out.

Cylinder to piston clearance is .003"on exhaust side, .0025" on intake side.

One ring specs out to .028" and the other .024"

Is there a digital workshop manual for these saws?

The 026 is a great pro saw. If you will be working it, then I would replace the piston (and maybe rings too). If you are only needing this one for occasional use then I would reuse it, based on the numbers you gave.

Your rings should have around .009 - .012 in a used cylinder, your piston would still be usable if it has no deep gouges, What is the rectangular mark or bit in the pict of the piston or is that a hole where the ring pin keeper should be?. Manuals can be found by posting in the beg for manuals thread.

Click on this link, ask there,

It's really easy just to replace piston and rings. I've got an aftermarket one already.

I already own a 026 pro, and picked two of these up. This was one, which I want to resell. Plane jane 026 with no decomp and plastic oil pump.

I'm keeping the nicer of the two. Has decomp and a adjustable oiler. I'm adding a compensating carb and a different filter cover for a retro pro.

Fair enough. If you are going with aftermarket then consider something decent like Meteor. It is such a good little saw the 026 that it would be unfair to stuff some Chinese crap in there!!

I am not 100% sure but I think new oem piston kits are not very expensive but you need to make sure you get the right one. There is a 44mm and a 44.7mm one

Its a 026, all p&cs were 44. The 260 ones were 44.7

Some 260’s were 44mm as well. In fact, most were.

Tecomec makes a nice slug at an attractive price now. Meteor’s have served me well, so I doubt I’d ever deviate from them personally.

It’s good that you’re asking. If you’re flipping the saw, you could just not give a hoot, as it will be someone else’s problem.

You’re at the end of that pistons usable life. I’d replace it.

My personal ones, I try to use oem/meteor. For resell around here, people aren't willing to pay much more for nicer aftermarket. The last 026 with farmertec p&c and raisman (china) bar and chain sold for 250. With full disclosure of china aftermarket.

This was the china p&c one:

I tried a meteor one and everyone kept offering 250.
