028 vs 028

came across 2 028 super today...same price good shape, good compression....no spark, he'll sell me any one for 50.00
one has a plastic handle/tank and the other is aluminum, i take it that may or may not be the older one.......which would you prefer?? and why??

I have never seen an 028 Super with an alloy handle or gas tank. Are you sure its an 028 Super?

Both my 28 supers have aluminum handles (covered with black, rough, rubber like stuff). The tanks are all plastic. Actually all the stihl's I have ever had had plastic tanks and aluminum (or other metal) handles.

$50 is a good deal though. If you've looked them over and made sure they are good, then I'd buy them. Even if it's just to resell them at a profit.

By the way, my guess would be that the one with the aluminum tank is the older of the two. (So if you want only one, get the plastic).

028 had many versions, I am sure I have not seen all of them.

One of them had the tank replaced with a used one. No problem.
