Hey everyone,

In a continued effort to find and rehab affordable stihl saws I picked up an 015L and an 028WB yesterday. The 015L responded well to a bit of scrubbing and cleaning and finally regapping the spark plug was all it took to get her running happily. The 028 looks to be in good enough shape though the carb was completely dismantled. I think the real culprit in the saws alleged poor running is a well cracked old fuel line, but that remains to be seen.

My Question; The 028 has no chain chain brake. Is this things missing that assembly? The serial number is E7800xxx. The oiler runs off a big white plastic sprocket. The chain brake handle moves but there's no band and thus no brake. I assume its missing parts but I figured I'd ask before I go any further.

thanks.

I have an older 028 that has no chain brake from the factory just has a handguard. Mine is a av not a wb , not sure if that is a standard for them or not. I couldnt even put one on unless I got a diffrent case half that has the place to anchor the brake band.

Does the hand guard move on your 028AV? Mine rocks front and back like its supposed to be hooked up to some linkage.

Chainbrakes were optional on the early 028's. Your's sounds like it is just the hand guard. Yes, it is spring loaded for some reason but has no function. Contrary to bushwakers post, you can retrofit one on there. There were two styles offered, you probably need the old style depending your saw. These parts are no longer made and I have been searching for used parts myself. Good luck!
These are the parts you seek.
