I was thinking maybe this nightmare with this early 066 was about over but it’s not let me have any peace yet… I had everything back together after finally getting the flywheel, coil, oil seal, gaskets, clutch drum and who knows what else right so it would be right. I had pulled this saw over several times easy to move the piston while taking clutch or flywheel off but after get everything together I was going to find out what find of compression I had and now the starter won’t engage sometime… like I just don’t reach the flywheel. Over heard of a narrow flywheel. Is that the flywheel I need? I have the 1201 flywheel..it is a narrow flywheel not like a 1209 but I couldn’t find a cdic coil for that flywheel so I had to go with the 1201 and a 1300 coil.. man what else can go wrong with one saw. Jeez!!!! If i need a narrow starter does anyone out there have one they want to get rid of or know where I can find one?
Thanks for all the help on this as always guys..This is the starter I have. It wont engage the flywheel…

The part # on the fan housing that I have is 1122-084-1060. I’m not sure what starter is going to work with this flywheel which is a1201. This starter worked for a bit but like I said I really didn’t pull on it hard just enough to move the piston a bit to remove a flywheel or clutch. But when I tried to pill it over it caught sometimes and sometimes it don’t. I changes the pawls and no difference.

It’s a early 066… I just heard when I was trying to find the coil and flywheel to match that someone on here said that you may get need a narrow starter but I don’t remember what it was for or for what reason. But it seem like this starter that I have just doesn’t reach the flywheel. Looks like the pawls just set off the flywheel too far.

I probably was shopping 064 parts before. Some of the parts are interchangeable and the same part is different in the 066 part book. This thing has been a beast of a project. Glad all are not like this. Wow

1122 400 1201 flywheel is for an 064. The CDIC coil is also 064 , 1122 400 1303.

Looks like you've made a "Frankensaw"? I think I've read about this using 064 parts to make an early 066 narrower/lighter? A 064 housing might fit?

Or are you putting an 066 housing on an 064 crankcase?

It says it’s a early 066 crankcase.. The case #’s are 1122-020-2905 and 1122-021-0705.. But yes it’s a 066 starter housing.. I went with the 1300 coil and 1201 flywheel because I couldn’t find a 1307 or 1303 limited to go with the 1209 limited flywheel that came with the cases..

So you've got 064 ignition parts/flywheel, on 066 case?

Didn't you post a picture of the case with the coil mount bosses? That seemed to look like early 064? E.g. mounts to fit dogleg coil.

I didn’t post a picture but it’s a 2 hole mount for the coil and 4 hole mount for starter.Don’t know if this picture helps or not.

I went back and looked at the old thread you chimed in on. It was for an 064 with the case pictures.

My memory is not totally shot...yet.

Your saw/066 is an early "red light" that came with the CDIC coil?

But it seems you've got the early 064 flywheel (1201) and the universal coil now, correct?

That might work with an 064 flywheel cover? Someone knows better than me......

That wasn’t me on that post. I only chimed in about the p/c that the guy was selling. But yeah if I can find a 064 starter that somebody wants to get rid of I’d like to try it.

The 064 flywheel is much narrower than the 066 so the deeper /wider 066 recoil will not engage properly, I have not tried swapping a narrow flywheel to a 066 chassis but if one was used for that swap then a narrow recoil would be a must have.
