I need to replace a piston in a 372xp.It has 2 rings.Some repacements only have 1 ring.Is that OK.

there are advantages to both.
IMO, on replacement cylinder and piston kits, use what you get and don't worry about it.

The 372xp still has one ring over here, as far as I know.

I believe that I have read that the two ring pistons in the US has something to do with Stihl making a big point of their two rings "over there", and Husky felt they had to respond.

and for good reason... it has to do with life of engine as the performance increased "newer" but much hotter engine designs (the rings take the heat away from the piston). In the USA, the last Stihl saw with one ring was the mid 90's with the 009, and before that the very early 024 in the mid 80's.

If the engine is designed for one ring, stay with it. If not...

There are several threads on this issue.

The 372 never held up to my line of work very well..

Not to knock the saw I've always liked them for being light weight.
