The $77 e-bay Shindaiwa saw arrived this afternoon. Fired right up and even though there is a repair on the handle, it seems sturdy.
Modified Mark fixed me up with a parts saw which arrived today also, so I have a handle when I want to make the switch.

The "new" saw fired right up. One thing about these 500's I've noticed is if you don't get a good pull on the cord, they tend to kick back and yank the starter handle away from you. Kind of stings. I think this will be my loaner saw.

I posted some picks to show the variation on the clutch covers. Some are open and some are closed over the muffler. Does anybody know which is the newer version?

I have one of these and found the parts to run a cut off saw, all fits, I just need the clutch drum that would run a belt if anyone has one. It would work out great since the saw runs fine, but the chain oil pump is dead. Dave.
