435vs440

Ok I’m thinking of getting a baby saw for little stuff. I see the husky 435 gets a lot of praise on here. I don’t see much in the 440. What’s the difference? Price wise their almost the same. I question to why they would make two says so close together.

I have a couple of 435 saws. I skipped over the 440 saw as they seem identical but the 440 has an 18” bar as opposed to the 435’s 16” bar. I just figured the saw would do better with a 16” bar. I have had both for a while now and use them fairly regular. I haven’t had any problems with either. Both were refurbished saws from Northern Tool. They had them on sale for $159. I bought one about 5-6 years ago and liked it. A year later they had the same sale/deal so I bought a second. Both looked like new saws. I noticed the other day, like a few days ago, Northern Tool had the 440 refurbished saws on sale for $179. I came close to buying one and still might as I have been pleased with the 435s. If Northern Tool still has that deal for the 440 refurb you should just buy it and not worry about the 435. I have a 435 and its a very handy little saw.

From what I understand they are essentially the same saw, but the 440 has a different piston that makes more compression. Got one in a $10 lot a while back, not bad for what it is. Never ran a 435 though

Never run the 435, but I just rebuilt a 440 and I like it well enough to keep it...

Husky is famous for making the same saw with a little different displacement. IE 435-440 then the 445-450 then the 455-460. Mike

I just ordered it. Looking forward to trying it. I might switch to Narrow kerf 16”. If not the narrow kerf the 16” anyway
