Been working on some large white oaks this summer & fall, so today I remembered to bring the camera with me.:dizzy: Thought I'd try to get some video showing the old Poulans actually do cut wood! I usually drop bigger trees like this with the 385xp, so I included it too. Its a swamp white oak, was 36" at the stump. The wood in the videos is 29".

I use a 28" bar on the 385xp, 24" bar on the blue 4000, and 20" bar on the green 4000.

Gregg,

The old Poulans run pretty good and have plenty of power, but I think my chains are a little "grabby", I been using a Pferd file holder, with the flat file that does the depth gauges at the same time. I think it takes off to much, so last few times, I just removed it, and sharpen without it. Sharpening chains ain't my strong suit, LOL, but is one of the most important!! to get an old or new saw to cut well.

Gregg,

Wow them old Poluans run pretty good there. That looked like a good log to be milling though;)

Your right Frank:D I have one more about that size, maybe little smaller I think I will save a couple logs from. Have had at least 5 of these swamp white oaks die in the last couple years. Couple years ago a forrester I talked to said few years back, he was working on a project with the state, to find out why the swamp white oaks were dying off up around Bowling Green, in the great black swamp area. All they could come up with was drought, and drainage of the area. We had bad drought here the last 2 years.

Gregg,

Yeah, the blue and white one is cool, but that green 4000 seems to cut a little faster. I'd be proud to own any of the 3.

The blue one has a 24" bar on it, maybe that makes it a little slower. Its actually a little stonger, I think. Last I checked it had 150 lbs. comp, the green one 130-135. But, its hard to tell, they both run strong,to me anyway.
