Hey Guys, After collecting 100's of acorns, floating them in water and drying them in an open container, I have found worms exiting the acorns. My question is what kind of bugs are they? They are a small (1/4 in long) white worm, maybe 1/16 in round, with a orangish dot at the head!

Thanks Rocky, yep, thats them. Acorn weevel. Don't appear to damage the tree any but they sure did hit the acorns I gathered.

Guess I'll have to go get some more!

You have to look at each one for the little hole. Quite time consuming.
I used to collect em for my pet squirrel, Conan.:)

You think the critters (deer/squirrels) know they have worms in them and leave them alone...maybe they can smell the nut is "infected" and don't eat them? Seems to be a high percentage of nuts with larvae in them...yet I ran off a doe that was munching on them. You think they care?
