Well I have a Stihl 650 Magnum and it has 064/650/660 inner felling spike/dog on it. So I brought the 650 and the 460 to my local stihl dealer and we found a large 660 inner spike and put it on the 460. So I ordered 2 matching outer dogs to put on the 650 and 460 when they come in. So I was poking around on here and I read somewhere that the 660 outer dogs will not work on the 460 as it will bolt on fine but be on an angle so that it makes the chain bind or something. Can anyone shine some light on to this?

Thanks,
Charles

The basket case 046 has the same set up 066 dogs and chain cover, with 046/460 large dogs on saw head (barely there's some bolts fall'n out of it...)

No funky binding or crooked cutting as long as the bar is straight and the chain is properly sharpened, (its got some hard miles on it...)

I've ran saws with the small dogs on one side and the really big dogs on the other without a problem.

About the only funny thing I can see is that the chain catcher doesn't really line up so ya gotta monkey with it a bit to get it on, but mine is probably bent, yours may go together no problem...

gee ya lost a bit of bar length with them i'll be surprised

if they don't pull the bar down and bind the chain

I have a 25" bar and a 28" bar so it will be fine.

My saw is well taken care of, and always keep my chains sharp. I just sharpened them. The chain on my 25" bar lasted 12 hours until I needed to sharpen it, and the only reason it needed to be touched up was because the last hour was cutting a frozen oak tree that uprooted. As I got further into that tree I noticed the chips getting smaller than when the chain is new.

I have a 460 with both inner and outer dogs. When I am notching a tree it tends to bind up but if i'm bucking a log there is no issue. Just my 2 cents

I have a pair of felling spikes on my 046. It binds/bogs the saw if you're not careful and have a loose chain. With big spikes you have a lot of leverage and its easy to push the saw over the limit. But once you get used to it it works wonders for felling. Just dropped some 50+ decent sized spruces for a friend last week and it was a blast, the bigger they are the easier they come down :)
