Hi Guys - does anybody know if a new 36" Stihl bar will fit on an old (80's) 038 Magnum power head without modification? If not, what modifications are required? For context, I'm using this for (very patient) Alaskan milling of ~30" wide fir slabs. Thanks!

Just to get it sorted out, you want a 70cc saw to do the job of a 120cc saw?

I have used my 038/380 copy cat saw with a 24in bar to mill rock hard beech wood, works ok. That's about 20 inches of effective chain.
I'd probably be happy with my 7910 at 28 inches with some patience, that's about 25% more power at about 80cc of torque.

Update: Picked up the 36" bar and ran it through the paces yesterday (starting by milling some 2-foot cookies), and results were very promising! Ran/cut smoothly as long as I didn't push it. Attached a couple of photos and will post another update once I mill some 8-foot fir slabs.
