As to Frankenstein huskies - there are some simple ones. The open port 268 - 272 comes to mind, just to add to the couple mentioned. But in most cases it's not required. Measure your squish, delete your base gasket, tickle the port shapes, mod your muffler and clean your air filter once a day instead of every tank, and enjoy good anti vibration at a lower weight.
It's not like once you own a husky you'll never own a stihl, several models are simply the best choice for their role from either camp. Two of my huskies are never leaving my hands, but I'm pretty sure that has more to do with the fact that a certain husky/jonsered dealer in Tennessee has done rude things with their insides. One of those is a useless pig 562.

yup my ported 2186 will take care of a 660......I wouldn't trade my ne 346 xp, 550 xp, or johnny 2260 for any other saw in their class. Come to think of it wouldn't trade my ported 394 xp for 660 either. Coming from a guy that's owned some Stihl saws.
Hmmm? All of the Stihl people that jumped in at the start answered while the work day was still active, the Husky people answered after the day was done in their time zone.I rest my case.

288xp early model KS cylinder with the supercool eliminator top. I got one minus the blue. Strong performer stock, great ported, and has the best modern idle out there
I'll be finding out soon enough how a 390 stacks up against a 660, both from cuddle lane. Left the top half of a Vic ash in the woods, so, unless He-Man stole it for firewood there's 36" of dead hard timber waiting for them. Oooh, can't wait

Yep, the 562 ares so bad...So bad that even the older loggers here who have worked with Stihl saws more than 30 years are buying 560/562, now. And they don't look back.
Out of the 5 that have been running 5 days a week 1 has lost a topend on a -20f morning. So I would say they will take a beating. The 2 old ones run great, the 3 new ones [with it 2 years] seem to be the ones with quirks. So I would have to say they hold up. Running correctly well that is another story. My friends crew cannot afford to send the saws to MM or Terry to have them run right so maybe it is time to move on or back to 357's. CJ
