Hello guys, my beautiful American Elm has started to display some strange coloration, which has me worried. Any idea or guidance on what this might? Thank you!

Bacterial slime flux. Some say it's indicative of DED but it's not. I'd be much more concerned about the crack it's coming out of that is going down the the main trunk. That tree could use a cable to support that leader and quick. Go on ISA'S website and find an arborist in your area to take look. A tree cutter will only offer you one solution, removal.

Let us know what the arborist says.

I'd let it go longer if the tree is far away from structures than if it overhung my kid's bedroom or my garage.
