Another whatizzit tree

Got this guy in a ditch I will be taking sometime this summer. Seen a few around here including one hugemongous one, well, I think it is the same species. whatizzit?

Bark does look too smooth for willow, possibly a willow oak? Plentiful in Georgia.

I think you are right. Went and looked at more images. The big one with the same leaves down by the creek has rougher bark, I will look closer at it tomorrow.
 
I would guess some form of willow based on the leaf picture. Could be a type that grows only south perhaps?

The leaves are similar to willow, but I sincerely think it is a hardwood. Have lots of regular willow around here, doesn't look like any of those to me. That willow oak looks really close. Frequently younger sapling trees don't have the same bark as mature trees. My pic of the tree in the ditch is a sapling.
 
If it's willow oak, you found some nice wood there zog. Easy splitting, high BTU, from the red oak family. No more frozen pipes for you! :D
 
Funny thing is the second pic looks like a white pine sapling. I know it isn't but sure does look similar.

Ha! I need to rig up some sort of blower to run some heat down under the house on those wicked cold nights.
